Dr Gloom 21965
are people voting yes? worth it just to annoy David Camembert iyam. I'm voting yes partly for that reason but also because the Tories will be the big losers. The majority of the country favour progressive political parties. Also it could lead to a proper referendum on Pr in the future.

We have the AV system in Australia and although the more 'progressive' parties probably get more votes because of the AV system the moderate wings still garner the vast majority of the vote. I put that down to the oldies mostly. I find old people are stuck in their ways and can't admit when they're wrong or boring or repeating themselves all the time. Besides the childish troll like dig at Leaze, the rest is utter rubbish. The biggest problem with Australia's AV system is that the majority of people merely list their first choice, leaving it up to the candidate to allocate their votes and they as a minority party will use it to gain the most leverage for whatever their political agenda is. That and up until recently if you did chose to list your preferences you were obligated to list them all in order of preference otherwise your vote was regarded as informal and discarded. You couldn't preference just the candidates you wanted. Then in the case of the upper house ballot paper where there are up to 100 candidates on the page, very few bothered and those that did if they fucked it up it was worthless. Happy Face 29
Straw poll of the 7 of us in our office has. Yes - 2 No - 3 No idea what AV is - 2 The split on the yes/no is entirely generational. The 2 that say yes are under 40, the 3 saying no are over 40. I reckon the no's have it cos nobody under 40 votes.

In defence of the preference system. You should kinda have to preference the candidates otherwise the whole process isn't really a preference system, is it? If people are too stupid to figure that out perhaps their vote shouldn't count. Which means the AV system kills two birds with one stone. What are saying about the comment directed at old people? Tom_NUFC 0
I've found it a bit tricky. On the one hand I think Yes can't be too bad simply because David Cameron wants you to vote No. On the other hand, I can't see how AV is fairer. Depending on who you vote for some people will get more votes than others, what with the different rounds. It's like oh your candidate's been knocked out, go on have another go. I understand that other people will see it differently, but that's how I see it and I don't see that as being fair. Then there's the fact that AV increases the chance of coalition governments. Granted we've got this one courtesy of First Past the Post, but I don't want the chance of this to increase. It's a licence for parties to break promises and say well we can't do this anymore because we're in a coalition. Parties will be chucking their manifestos in the bin and then what what do they stand for and what are we voting for? So when it comes to the crunch for all I don't like Cameron, I'm afraid I have to accept that I agree with him on this issue. Here's hoping for a No victory and for the Lib Dems to get battered. Hopefully tomorrow morning the Toon will be back in Labour hands.
Christmas Tree 4729
If my straw taxi poll is anything to go by then the turnout will be shite. The local polling stations have been dead and I havent had one person in the car all day who either had voted or was intending to vote. i really hate local elections. No fucker usually has any idea who they are voting for, whether the current lot have done a good job or what the local issues are. The sheep just turn up and mark x in the red box. Oh to live in an area that changed hands now and again.
Billy Castell 0
I voted yes, but in some ways I can't lose. If 'yes' wins, then it pisses on David Camercunt. If 'no' wins, then Prick Clegg has fucked himself over and the Lib Dems will implode. And if it close in terms of the percetages, then the coalition will be very fractured and the back stabbing will begin. So it's probably Fonzy thumbs all round. I even voted in the local elections for the first time. I had a choice between Labour, Conservative and the Socialist Alliance. So I voted for the Trotskyists for a laugh.
