Thinking of taking the wife out tonight and was going to do China Town. Are there any really fantastic restaurants that are hot at the moment in the town. (Ones that serve proper food, none of your lets get a load of veg essence dancing around a cube of lamb shit).

Davantis for Italian (do a canny Sunday roast as well) is excellent imo. Luis and Allards for snacks and tapas. Hugo's good as well but only serves lunchtime. The Gate is average Indian fayre. Haven't tried Barca's for food yet but supposed to be good. The village bistro has shut down again I believe (overpriced). Best for pub food probably Copperfields at the back of the Grand.

Barcas is much better than The Firepit which it used to be.

Obviously loads of good cafes as well. By tynemouth is and always will be mainly a drinking place imo.

Btw , I see that a new shop specialising in fine wine and Cuban cigars has opened on Front street. Talk about niche.

Edit: btw Gemma, whereabouts are you moving to?

Nice one, will try some of those places out. We're looking for new build, so we had a look at Earsdon View and also at the massive expanse that is Great Park.

If you're going for Asian, you should try Electric East. It's not on Stowell Street, but the food is class.

Old Siam is really nice for Thai food on the quayside.

If you want Chinese, I like the landmark on Stowell Street.

If its chinese she wont go past the King Neptune tbh. I quite like the landmark but end up with the owner at my table "catching up" for an hour or so. Spoils the moment.

Very reasonable haircuts at "raditions Barbers" (sic)

Advice sort on three establishments that have been suggested to me as a gentle eat and drink in Newcastle.

Crown Posada

The Bacchus

La Tasca (Grey Street)

La Tasca is alreet but it's tapas which is just basically stuff you eat with a beer / wine, rather than a proper meal, imo. I think El Coto is a bit better on that front. La Tasca is a chain anyway and whilst not the worst it's nowt special. They do some decent deals though. Crown Posada is a good bar. It looks fantastic (stained glass etc. - it's the oldest bar in Newcastle iirc) but it's basically an old-fashioned boozer marooned on the Quayside. The Bacchus is decent. Good selection of drinks, quite nice inside, nee trendies/dickheeds. I like it anyway.

I hate places like Great Park. Handy for work like ;)

Aye it's completely soulless. We just want out of our current place and out of North Shields sharpish and this is the easiest way.

It's just too big for a start. I can see the attraction of a new build like, even though I love my Victorian terraced house.

Christ, your laziness even extends to house buying!

Has it really got an outside netty as Chez once alluded to?

Nah. Not sure what he's on about there, unless I had a drunken piss in the back yard.

I'm scared of chains and I'd want to kill someone if a move fell through!

Cheers Alex, you don't know if either of them let well behaved children in do you.

Not sure. Never seen bairns in either. Worth ringing but I reckon the Bacchus probably lets them in through the day at least as they do scran in there.
