Ended up going to Planky mill today. Due to concerns that parking may not be available due to the camping closure, we instead parked at the National Trust car park at Allen Banks and Staward Gorge, just outside Bardon Mill.

We then did the walk along the riverside to planky mill and must say what a beautiful walk it was. When we eventually got to planky mill, the fields were open for car parking with lots of bbq's on the go. However had we gone straight there we would have missed the walk itself which was the star of the day.

Kids and adults had a good swing on the old rope swing, caught some fishys and did some splodging.

After several hours, back in the car and off to the boathouse in Wylam for a couple of real ales and some pretty tasty pub grub. Put some good old eighties crap on the jukebox and tucked in.

Allenbanks is canny, should get yourself up Staward Peel. Gets the old heart pumping. A canny walk around there is called the John Martin trail.

After a nice day out nr. Ashington

Walk from Craster to Low Newton, pub lunch , then walk back.

Nipper friendly

Might need that after tonights weigh in... :icon_lol:

Will investigate that walk as well. Is there a choice of pubs in Low Newton and if so, which is the one to eat at.

Theres only the one pub in Low Newton, cant miss it.

JawD, is the John Martin trail named after the Artist?

This one?

I walk now and again around Northumberland. Just done 12 mile on Monday. South Tyne (near fourstones) up to the military road (Brocolitia).

Half of us don't realise just how good we have it up here.

Oh and shepherds walks is another good site

Doing the Hadrian's Wall walk next week, cant wait :)

How long are you taking for it and which way? I went west to east over 4 days a few years back. Loved it. Didnt camp though, we used a sherpa service and b&b'd it on the way over. Cracking walk but stock up on compeed.

Had Thurs & Fri off last week and did a ride from my Gaff in North Leeds upto Malham and around Arncliffe in the Dales. I love living close to the Dales its an amazing bit of the country with some dramatic scenery. Did 147km in the end and was BAKED!

One thing you cant beat about Northumbria is the coast though, lush.
