Sophie Morris, from Newcastle, was reported missing from the Heaton Park area of the city at 3.28pm. Northumbria Police launched a major search involving the force's helicopter as well as officers on the ground and reported that she was safe soon after 5pm. A spokesman said: "The missing girl has been found safe and well. Northumbria Police would like to express its gratitude to the media for the speed of their reaction.
