Deano 0
ALAN PARDEW declared Newcastle United’s survival mission accomplished after they hung on for a dogged draw at Blackpool. Pegged back after Peter Lovenkrands hammered them in front just after the quarter-hour mark, United were made to work hard for a point which took them to 41 for the campaign. And while Pardew admitted his side had been outplayed for the most part, he said the black-and-white goal must now shift to a top-10 finish. Currently in ninth place and seven points clear of the drop zone, they travel to Andy Carroll’s Liverpool on Sunday boosted by knowledge they will be playing top-flight football next term. “We’re safe now. It’s done now when you look at the other results,” Pardew said. “For us our motivation must be a top-10 finish. “We’ve got four contrasting games now – two tough away and two at home where you’d like to think we’ve got a chance. “For us now the pleasing thing is we go to Liverpool with the same energy. “We’ve no midweek game so it should be a good one – I’m looking forward to that one.” And in a further boost, the Sunday Sun understands Joey Barton is ready to commit his future to Newcastle in the coming weeks. The club have offered a three-year extension to his current deal and, despite a significant reduction in his weekly wage, the midfielder is desperate to remain at St James’ Park. This means that while there will probably be some more back and forth between club and advisors, Barton is almost certain to be lining up in black-and-white again next year – a huge cause for cheer for the Toon Army. http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle...79310-28573549/ I think we are too. Good to hear Barton is about to sign an extension and on a lower wage. Shows his commitment and love for the club iyam. Now get Enriques contract sorted. Deano 0
Kinda wish Barton doesn't cave to them tbh, odd i know but everytime the club gets lucky like this it just gives them excuse to keep "gambling" with signings and contracts Tbh i think Barton offered that it be on lower terms just a 3 years extentions rather than just 2. Fair play to him really. I doubt enrique will take a pay cut however.

Fair do's to him taking a drop. Having said that, I reckon if he COULD get the same money elsewhere he'd go for it. Enrique can probably get more elsewhere. Without a doubt and in fairness, if he doesnt want to be here then id have no qualms in selling him. Id just want the club to make sure it was a team abroad and that we got a decent replacement in. M'Bengue would be decent, as too would Taiwo.

He is still a risk anyway imo and was apparently on a very good wage from the start.

As for Ireland...i liked him a Citeh, still to early to know if he would be a good option in the summer. I think id rather have Taarabt tbh. Fair play to him really. I doubt enrique will take a pay cut however. Barton will justifiably be paid less than he was getting originally. Enrique will be on a substancial amount less than Barton, being relatively inexperienced when he was signed. The similarly sized fee will have been based off his potential which will have been balanced against lower wages. No doubt though he will be able to get more elsewhere, and I'm still more or less resigned to him leaving, but I'd say that there wouldn't need to be a pay cut for Jose to keep him within any new founded wage structure. We've been hovering around midtable, admittedly as close to relegation as Europe for a while, we have some good players in our side and have the nucleus of a side which if strengthened could easily compete for a European place. The fact that Pardew comes in, states that no way is Carroll going and then sees him sold with no replacement, sees no strengthening in the squad and watches as we make full use of the points already banked as we potter on with a thin squad and a shit strike force says much about him and his job description. SBR had the bones of a decent side who finished 11th, kept them and got two players who made the difference and had us pushing on, he didn't sell his blue chip players and brag about staying up. Compare and contrast.
Kitman 2207
I'm just happy we seem to have survived. Maybe we'll be "pleasantly surprised" with this summer's transfers too. Let's see if we're serious about improving the squad and tie down our key talent without further ado. And with 35 mill in the bank (at least), loads of time and a break even position in the books (iirc), there's no excuse for not buying some top attacking talent in particular. And I'm not talking about Carlton fucking Cole.
Noelie 103
Actually, if you think about it for next season .............. If Ben Arfa is fit and playing to expectations. Gosling is fit and playing to expectations. Enrique stays. Barton stays. Tiote stays Jonas stays. Colo stays. Saylor stays. Ireland maybe gets signed. Nolan stays. Williamson stays. Simpson stays. Lovenkrands stays. And if Ferguson, Airey, Kadar, Ranger. Lua Lua, and those other fringe players stay & improve we would on paper have a better team than we have right now. Mind you, I'm not saying we shouldn't bring in new faces or get rid of some, we should do both.

Kitman 2207
We need to hang on to our best players (Barton, Tiote, Enrique) AND strengthen the squad. We can't rely on Ben Arfa to be the answer given how seriously he was injured imo. You'd hope Ashley and Llambias aren't too ignorant or stupid to understand the need to bring in more attacking talent, but nothing will surprise me with this lot. Personally I think we'll see some new investment, I just hope Pardew doesn't squander whatever he's allowed to spend.

loonyTOON 10
Just looked at the table and only been 7 points clear worries me a little. How stupid is Pardew going to look if results all go against us and we're relegated. I don't understand why he would say we're safe when mathematically we're not. Kind of digging your own grave?
