Dr Gloom 21965
the only case to be made for the monarchy is made by the moron as you have done re the football club, you'll eventually realise I'm right ie when you grow up and forget about the brainwashing you had by your left wing nutcase teacher at college right on cue
Gemmill 44995
If you can't enjoy today for what it was and what it meant then you are a sad sad person, Spot on. I'm perfectly happy for the young couple. They seem decent enough and they make one another happy, so good luck to them. After losing his mother as a kid and having a borderline retard for a father, fair play to William for seeming a decent enough lad. What I find absolutely staggering are the freaks that they were interviewing on the telly who were describing it as (and this is a direct quote) "the most exciting day of my life". People in ridiculous union jack suits who had been stood outside since 4:30am. And people, like you, that can't take a bit of joking on about the whole thing. The ceremony was as sombre as fuck btw, and canny boring, which people pointed out in this thread. Then, yeah, people had a bit of carry-on about smashing Middleton's back doors in - so fuck, it's a message board where people like a laugh. What were you expecting, virtual flag waving and simpering about how beyootiful the bride looked? Cocknose.
Christmas Tree 4729
You don't half get carried away with yourself at times! I find all the banter very amusing AND still find sad the people moaning about how ridiculous it all is yet still remain glued to their TV's. Penis breath. Billy Castell 0
An elected President would be my choice. Cue Leazes and the other monarchists saying something amazingly stupid like "what? you'd be happy with a President Blair?!!" to create a total non-argument in favour of keeping the privilige principle in place. aye, its like saying if you don't read the Guardian you're a racist Completely missing the saliant point again. Christ, you are being a mong. The Blair comment was one based on the usual argument that some vain senior politican will become President and have a big ego trip. Blair is such a man, who is loathed by many. Using the image of Blair in such a role as the only alternative is false to say the least as removing the monarchy would need a lot of constitutional changes, and probably a codified constitution. You don't want Blair as President, write a clause saying no ex-PM can be President. Simples. But what about people like John Prescott? Surely he'd be even worse. The answer would be to perhaps extend the clause to ex-MPs. Of course this leads to the constitutional debate of what a British President's role would be. Would they be a largely ceremonial figure, opening Parliament, hosting events welcoming other heads of state and whatever else the current royal family do? Or, would they be more politically involved as is the case with France and the USA and have a real role to play in political matters? T The fact is, either type of President would be better than having a dysfunctional family sitting in a golden cage with massive powers that they dare not use in case they end up cutting the rotten branch the cage is hanging from. Gemmill 44995
It's been pointed out to you that there's a certain morbid curiosity about things like this - my lass was watching it, and I was sat in the room winding her up about it and posting on here, having a laugh. Meanwhile in Boldon, you'd wrapped a Union Jack round your chopper and were tugging yourself silly and tearing up at all three eyes at the glorious pomp of it all. Gemmill 44995
Don't chuck your bunting out by the way, CT. Diamond Jubilee next year. Here's to another free day off work. I doubt I'll watch that one unless Pippa Middleton's riding a horse down the Mall. Topless.

ChezGiven 0
This thread has been funny as fuck. Just finished watching the TF1 news, normally I'd watch Sky but I was interested in how they would cover it over here. They dedicated just under half of the hour long national news programme to the event and the newsreader looked like she was creaming herself all the way through. When you realise the extent of the international interest in the event and you see it through their eyes, it is striking how important an event it as for the country, it's image and peoples's interest in it. It might be not what everyone would want people to think of when they think of Britain but the glamour and the sense of history is important because thats part of what people think of when they think of britain. Nowt wrong with that imo.

It is odd. I doubt Jeremy Kyle would have berated the Queen Mum for blowing millions on the horses, yet he has people on his show doing that sort of thing without the tax payer picking up the tab for all the debts, and he goes mental. NJS 4389
If you can't enjoy today for what it was and what it meant then you are a sad sad person, Spot on. If it was just a wedding then they could have that in Windsor chapel. Instead its a celebration of fuedalism and oppression. I'd also mention the religious angle - they aren't just taught their position is a birthright they are taught (and it is the official dogma of the religion which no doubt people on here were happy to identify themselves in the census) that they are literally appointed by the grace of God. If you don't find any of that offensive then like I said you have no pride in yourself on any level.

NJS 4389
The "Blair for president" argument used to be used with Thatcher - its the argument of an absolute fucking cretin. Can anyone argue with someone like Mary Robinson who was Irish president? Can anyone name the president of Germany who I understand is the dignified head of state we could have without the inbred soap opera? (cue the cretins mentioning Hitler). I'm not a "right winger", and I don't think the Royals are "better" than ordinary people. I do have views of benefit cheats, particularly those who shouldn't even be in the country and even more so those who are abusing our cultures, laws and regard for human life and the rights of people who have spent their entire lives in the UK and have the British values the disregard. On the other hand I have nothing but contempt for those who do not see the value of the health service, education services, care services, transport services etc and appear to take the view that if you are out on your arse its all your own fault because you're a good for nothing lout, and tough shit sonny. I don't read the Daily Mail. I don't need to read any newspaper, I can see what is going on in the world and have seen what the world is like. People are greedy, for money and power, this is how it is, nobody is going to give you anything for free [except the UK......] I've met Princess Anne and I quite liked her. I know people who met Prince Andrew and say he is a pompous prick, which I tend to believe but maybe they just got him on a bad day. Prince William and Harry seem to be as down to earth as its possible to be for someone in their position and upbringing, I think Diana would have been proud of them today.
