donkey of the season

Perch, clinched by the number of "fish out of water, floundering, being tackled by a wet fish" idioms that suit his play perfectly.

Ranger & Krul have been less than impressive, too.

You do realise Ameobi hasnt got to 50 league goals for us yet, despite this being his 12th season starting in the first team? He averages 4 league goals a season for us and you think he is too good for the Championship :D

Oh and just for good measure, his highest tallies in the Premiership are 9, 7 then 5.

For all the stats you want to throw at it Shola is a decent player. Capable of more than he produces were he able to maintain focus and effort. Even with that obvious liability he's an absolute handful for defenders. In 12 seasons 'starting' as you say he's frequently been third or fourth choice which explains the goal scoring tally when you also consider his horrible injury record which always seems to pop up just when he threatens to have some consistent form.

As much as he can be a donkey on the pitch in certain circumstances he's clearly capable of competing at the highest level.

Worst post ever :D

Stroller never was, still isn't, and never will be good enough for NUFC. A striker is judged by his goals. Just search for the hilarity that ensued on here when he went to the press claiming he wanted to play for England/wanted to be our No.9 etc.

He scores a goal every 5 games. 2 of him up front for you and your getting relegated.

not sure i agree entirely. bellamy was different class for us and he didn't score many goals for us.

agree shola has massively under achieved but he still has the odd good game and he's not a bad squad player to have.

to be fair, he's probably the best striker on our books at the moment. thought hat speaks volumes about the quality in the rest of the squad obviously

Noone's suggesting he should be first or even second choice, but he clearly has the size and talent to play in this league. I've been as frustrated as anyone with some of his performances along the way mind you. It's crazy that he's the best striker we currently have on our books.

I agree with J69 about Best. He's never ever gonna be a top striker regardless of his ratio, take the 3 sitters against West Ham away and add it to his CCC record and it's pretty dire, we only miss him cos we're amazingly weak up front. We're so shit up front I'd get rid of the lot apart from Shola who I'd only play against the mackems. I wouldn't be arsed if they said we're signing 3 players, if all 3 were strikers.

Totally agree none of them are good enough*

We ruthlessly let Routledge go so I expect the donkey's that are still here next season will be because we recieved no/shit offers.

I'd also keep Shola largely for my own amusement, he's always good for a joke or two, especially when he's a sub warming up -"were alreet lads" :D

*still yet to see Xisco.

People will continue to give Shola stick but by no means has he been our worst player this season, far from it.

he's been a match winner on more than the odd occasion.

sad indictment that he's one of our better senior players mind. ideally he'd be 4th choice striker coming off the bench

Shola's due a testimonial aint he? We should have a winner-takes-all sweep at how many will attend (should he actually be given one, that is). I guess 9,135 (I hope my numbers dyslexia hasn't muddled that up).

But they haven't been 'donkey of the season' though...

What's the fuck.ng point of asking a subjective question then?

Perch has hardly played. Ive had the privilge of seeing these two football murderers week in, week out

Can't believe people are warming to either of them. Have a look back at videos of bellamy, shearer and Ferdinand then give your heads a shake

We're talking about donkeys of the season, players that have contributed nothing to the team or even worse, cost us points and you start suggesting people who have scored goals that have gained us points. And then you start banging on about past strikers, what the fuck have they got to do with donkey of the season? <_<

Give your head a shake.

Begins and ends with Perch this like. Hughton's worst moment. By all accounts, he's well liked but you can see that those early string of performances, coupled with the fact he's shite, has knacked him to the point where you couldn't get a decent run of games out of him if you tried. I think he'll be gone back down to The Championship in the summer. Not his fault that the toon went in for him, I'd have signed as well but he's well out of his depth.

Sol Campbell came with a canny string of games at Arsenal last season with him but he's looked finished as well, a few good tackles aside. His back got an assist for Man City though.
