Christmas Tree 4858
Evening Chronicle NEWCASTLE UNITED are understood to be at an advanced stage in new contract talks with inspirational skipper Kevin Nolan. The Chronicle understands that Newcastle are keen on ensuring Nolan sees out the peak years of his career on Tyneside, with no shortage of interest in the Toon talisman coming from a host of Premier League sides this season. United’s top scorer with 12 goals this season still has two years left to run on his current deal. And Alan Pardew, delighted with Nolan’s contributions on and off the field, sees the experienced former Bolton star as playing a key role in shaping the club’s future. United have already tied down Cheick Tiote until 2017, with Mike Williamson, Nile Ranger and Haris Vuckic also on board for the long haul until 2016. Nolan could soon follow suit by committing his future to the black-and-white cause. The 28-year-old is suspended for the trip to Aston Villa this weekend, but made it clear in the aftermath of relegation last season that he wanted to stay on Tyneside and help take the Magpies back to the promised land of the Premier League. Many football observers feel that Nolan has been unfortunate not to make it into the England set-up this season, especially after some unconvincing displays by Fabio Capello’s men and some shock call-ups for the likes of Kevin Davies and Jay Bothroyd. Pardew would not be drawn on how close Nolan is to securing a new deal but, despite the player’s two-game ban, his pride at the Scouser’s performances has been there for all to see of late. He said: “Kevin leads by example and we’ve seen that in his performances this season. “He brings so much positivity to the team. And that’s something we all want to see more of.” United are still to agree a new contract with Nolan’s fellow Merseysider Joey Barton, with the former Man City man’s contract due to expire in June next year. Barton has transformed his fortunes after a troubled start to life at United and is a prime candidate for player of the season at St James’ Park. But no agreement on a new contract has been reached thus far. Yet Barton told French magazine So Foot: “I might stay this summer because we have some good players and money to spend. “But I'm going to wait and see if players like Kevin Nolan, Cheick Tiote and Jose Enrique stay. "If Nolan signs a new deal, I will as well. “But I hope the club step things up. “I want to be ambitious and I think the club share that desire." Could be great news if it also encourages Barton to sign up.

rogerbarton 24
He'll be a good presence around the club even when his best on field days are behind him. In any case, his technique is outstanding. 4 years would be fine.
