Scottish Mag 3
Newcastle are back in the hunt to sign Chelsea defender Robert Huth while Stephen Carr is being linked with a move away from the club. Graeme Souness has long been linked with a move for Huth and he held talks with the Blues following the game between the two sides at Stamford Bridge last month. The gaffer also mentioned Wayne Bridge and Glen Johnson during his chat with Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho but a move for German international Huth looks the most likely at this time. The German international looks certain to leave Chelsea in January as he goes in search of first-team football ahead of the World Cup finals in his homeland next summer. Souness will be in the hunt to land him but he will face competition from Aston Villa and Bayern Munich who are also keen on the talented central defender who is well and truly out of the first-team picture at Chelsea. Meanwhile, reports in Ireland claim that Carr could be shipped out by Souness in order to make way for new blood. The 29-year-old has failed to hit off since arriving from Tottenham and the injury-prone defender has lost his place in the side to Peter Ramage. Isegrim 9898
I haven't heard anything about Bayern being interested over here. I do rate Huth very highly, but don't think he is what currently is needed at Newcastle. He is much too raw and prone to mistakes and clumsy in the tackle. If Newcastle were in for a German defender they should give Nowotny a consideration. He was out with a cruciate ligament damage and sued his club during that time, so they sacked him. If (and that is a very big IF) he can reach his full fitness again he would be the sort of commanding defender Newcastle needed.
Baggio 0
I'm all for Carr leaving although I can't think of any quality right backs out there who are available to replace him... Edited December 12, 2005 by Baggio
Dr Gloom 22147
i know he's highly rated but he looks a donkey to me.
Geordie Boyo 24
He did think highly of one donkey we had as you know and gave him a new 5 year contract until people told him otherwise...! He can stick his Moore, Faye & Huth up his arse for all I care. These players are a total waste of money, imo.
TheInspiration 1
An average defender tbh. However, would be a good replacement for Shearer... when it comes to those free-kicks.
Yogic 0
Jose has told Klinsman that there is NO WAY he will loan or sell Huth this season.
ChocChip 0
I think we're very weak at RB and wouldn't sell Carr unless we had a decent replacement. The ball does not love Peter Ramage
