catmag 337
Not arsed about weddings and like Stevie, I'd hate to be centre of attention for a whole day. However, I know it's pretty much up to her, isn't it. If she decides she wants a lavish celebration, that's what we'd aim for. Fuck right off. Not the Whole day. Aye, you'd have one of them week long Indian doo-dahs so you could really fucking milk it! gan stuff yorsel in a bin Oooo, you're so........common yup, I'm basically speaking from the gutter. trophyshy 7083
Some proper cheap weddings here Not that I have a problem with that, I think it's spot on. Most annoying thing for me about weddings is having the afterparty somewhere when the drinks are stupidly expensive. Just because they've had to pay shit loads for a wedding doesn't mean they have to take it out on me by making me pay something stupid for a pint. And while we're on the subject of weddings, what do Ushers actually do? Fuck off asap and get on the lash apparently.

Had to sort of put people in limo's and there were other responsibilities in the church, but I was too hungover to care, or remember, just needed more drink. I hated the best man and still do, absolute wank from Coventry who looks like Alan Cork, and he supports Liverpool and is a posh see you next Tuesday. The top is a serious pinch point and there was an inevitable traffic jam. Literally about twenty cars in each direction from the point, all stuck, and more piling up, surreal up there to be in that situation. A cyclist broke the tension as he struggled past, quoting the old Lilt advert, 'It's totahl gridlock maaaan'.

Dr Gloom 21924
Think ours was about 13-15k all in. We had the service and reception at matfen hall. 100 people in the day then another 30 or 40 in the evening. I was a bit anxious about the whole thing. Seemed too many people but it was spot on in the end. The venue was lush, felt like a church where they did the non religious ceremony - Renton would have loved the stained glass window. Then there was a cool dancefloor bit in the basement where some pals of mine hit the decks and a bar that let us stay up drinking till 5am. I was all up for getting hitched in Vegas but the wife wanted the big party. Luckily our parents paid for most of it. 13 or so grand gets you a really nice venue in the north east but I'm sure it could be done with a more understated venue and less free booze than we gave away for less than half that price. Ally 0
Ours will be about 70 for the day and an extra 30 or so for the evening. Works out about £8k for the venue hire (quite a good deal actually as all inclusive). We were going to be cheap but thought we'll hopefully only get married once so might as well make it a good one. Our respective parents are chipping in although hers aren't well off where as mine are so the arguments have already started there!
Barney 0
Mine is next Saturday. Cost is about €16k. 80guests. I'm dreading being the centre of attention for the day, so we've booked a bit of entertainment to deflect. A casino company are coming in with 2 blackjack tables and a roulette wheel, we have a caricaturist and a photo-booth that gives two strips of 4 photos, one as a momento for the guest(s) and one gets pasted into a wedding book that the guests sign. I'm currently putting together a playlist for that portion of the evening(The Rat Pack, the Dan Band, Elvis). I really don't want speeches as I find them in-jokey and boring as everyone wants to get on with the drinking, so hoping the best-man keeps it short and sweet, with an absolute minimum of stripper stories. Anyone know if the groom is to do a speech? This is the band we've gotten, I've been to see them a few times and they're great-just cheesy 80's covers. Similar for us. Cost about £14k for 90 daytime and 150 night time guests at Beamish Hall. We paid £4k and both sets of parents put in £5k each. We asked for honeymoon donations instead of wedding gifts and came out with £3.5k which got us 10 days in Sydney and then 5 days in New York and 10 days in Florida, which was nice When you first book a wedding you forget all the little extras that you have to pay for! Heres a couple of pictures to really upset Wacky/ASM Church (Looks empty but there were 100 in there!) Barney 0
We spent about 30% more on the band than any other band would have cost. They're great though and all my mates love them(I've not told any of them about the band or entertainment though). We initially talked about getting married in Italy or France, but with 2 young kids, we sort of have our hands tied-same for the honeymoon. Kid Dynamite 7029
Any bloke who has been married knows that they are pretty far down the list of people who matter on the day. It's more about your wife, mother, mother in law, father of the bride etc. Thats why I don't really agree with this whole 'Fuck a big wedding, I'm eloping to Vegas and doing it without telling anyone attitude'. I would never forgive my sister if she did that to my mam and dad Maybe family isnt as important to some people but I wouldn't have had half as much fun without all my grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, mates at my wedding. One of my mates that got hitched recently had one. It was awesome. Came with loads of fancy dress too which was brilliant craic the more drunk everyone got. Everyone got loads more than two sets done then there was a website where everyone could view them all. A mini casino sounds quality too.
sammynb 3355
The lass and I had the easiest wedding possible. We told no-one but invited 30 family and close friends to ours for a house warming. When they had all arrived we introduced the marriage celebrant and asked our guests if they wouldn't mind being witnesses for our wedding. Once the ceremony was finished we walked up the street to a favourite restaurant of ours and had the reception. A few of the wife's family wouldn't commit to coming so fuck'em we started the ceremony without them and my sister dismissed it as "just a house warming" so her and her family missed out completely. The only people that knew were friends who lived interstate or O/S.
snakehips 0
This is on the radar for me in the next few years. It's such a waste of money imo. These days it just seems to be all about show imo. I'd rather give the couple 10k towards a deposit on a house and spend 5k on a simple wedding than anything else. However, it's not up to me
Dr Gloom 21924
Agree with j69 about getting a band as well as djs. I've seen some brilliant wedding bands in recent years. It's funny like how as you get into your 30s, weddings become the most common social gatherings of you and your mates after birthdays. I went to 6 last year. A mate of mine went to 12! Once you included stag dos (most of which are weekends away these days) that's about half the weekends in his year gone!
