henda11 0
Lille's in-demand striker Gervinho has refused to play down reports linking him with Newcastle. The Ivory Coast international has enjoyed a productive 2010/11 campaign, helping to fire his current employers to the top of Ligue 1. His exploits have thrust him into the European spotlight, with numerous clubs reported to be plotting summer raids. Spanish giants Atletico Madrid were believed to be leading the hunt, but the door remains open for other suitors to join the race. Newcastle could be among those prepared to chance their arm, with Alan Pardew in the market for a striker following the January sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool. Privilege Gervinho admits he would welcome the opportunity to turn out in Spain or England, but insists any talk regarding his future must wait until the end of the season. "Newcastle are a good team," he said. "I have been linked to various teams now but I am still under contract at Lille until 2012, so I am not worrying. "We are top of the league and I want to win that. At the end of the season we can sit down and see what the next step will be. I want to concentrate on my football. "The Spanish and English leagues are two of the best in the world and it would be a privilege to play there, but I belong to Lille until 2012." Kid Dynamite 7182
Fingers crossed. We will only need 2 more strikers then
McFaul 35
He's not that good imo, better than what we have undoubtedly though. Perhaps Chik can twist his arms, very best of pals by all accounts.

Ashley is going to have to sign at least one half decent player to shut the fans up
McFaul 35
no chance he's coming here wise up He's not in the same league as Ben Arfa in terms of stature in football and ability imo and we got him.

CleeToonFan 1
May only be an outside chance, but it doesn't stop the threat of relegation worrying the fuck out of me like. On the topic of Gervinho, I think there's heaps of better players out there, and hopefully we get better links soon, with the likes of Dempsey much better options

Guest alex
Cause for concern is our recent form (3rd bottom at home 6th bottom away going off the last 6 games iirc), our proximity to the drop-zone (points-wise) and all the teams down at the bottom being so tightly-packed meaning none of them have been cut adrift and then you've got our run of games ahead. We should be alright like.
toonotl 3116
I think we have a right to be hopeful, regarding the signing of Gervinho. Anymore than that is delusional. As for our relegation chances. One more win in the next few games and we can probably relax knowing we will pick up enough additional points along the way to secure safety. Not replacing Carroll in January is starting to look more idiotic week to week at this stage.
Deano 0
We will stay up. Im not worried. Win against Wolves will ease the pressure. I'd love to see us go for bendtner and vela from arsenal.

StoneColdStephenIreland 74
The most worrying part about it is other teams seem to be picking up points from everywhere but we don't, but looking on the plus side there's 6 teams splitting us from the bottom 3 and those teams shouldn't make up the points and goal difference on us over these coming 8 games, but this is Newcastle, and we never like to do things the easy way

Dolly Potter MD 0
Cause for concern is our recent form (3rd bottom at home 6th bottom away going off the last 6 games iirc), our proximity to the drop-zone (points-wise) and all the teams down at the bottom being so tightly-packed meaning none of them have been cut adrift and then you've got our run of games ahead. We should be alright like. I think the team is running on petrol fumes at the moment - i wish the campaign had wrapped up now tbh. The form line is worrying. Hopefully the teams below us, whom one poster has so ignorantly dismissed as potential threats, fail to make make sizeable gains on us during Tiote's upcoming absence. The management upheaval [concerning Hughton, who earned the respect of the dressing room] earlier in the season coupled with the events of the Jan transfer window, there has to be feeling among senior & in-demand players that they have been sold down the river by the current club ownership - it has to take it's toll eventually, on what was a unified & committed 1st team. There are some players in the current set-up who have done enough [over the course of the campaign already] to secure moves to more ambitious clubs next season, hence the club's premiership survival may not be at the top of their agenda. Hopefully we've banked enough points already. Unexpected gains [ie. at Arsenal, under Hughton] could well be our saving grace.
