Giraffidae 0
just about the only thing I can remember about that ManUre game was standing in the Scoreboard section looking across to the corner and noting how mad the surges down were — worse than they normally were — and laughing about my mate who got a ticket in there by mistake. the wonders of the human mind! snakehips 0
Anyone remember Smith being attacked in the dug-out on New Years Day when Wolves beat us 4-1??? Aha! I've made reference before on here about someone jumping out of the West Stand paddock and trying to attack him. The perpetrator didn't get to Smith (that's what my memory tells me), but I couldn't remember which game it was. However, I know for a fact I was at the game you mention so that is probably when the incident I recall happened. Thanks.

I was in The Corner that day. I recall Ron Atkinson saying on tv or radio, at a later date, that he experienced one of his greatest match day lives at St James' that day (he was also the co-commentator for 'the' Barcelona game, and I'm sure he says half way through that that was the greatest european atmospheres in his life). Someone please confirm it was Atkinson managing Man U for that cup game, 'cause if not, I am thinking of another game entirely (but I can't recall another right now). Tyne Bridge 22
Evidently written in the second half the the 86/87 season as they mention Beardsley being retained - we sold him that summer. Perhaps my naivity and innocence at the time but I don't recall the racism being as bad as it's made out here - certainly wasn't any more worse than in other parts of the country. But as you say from a footballing perspective it's eerily familiar. I remember Cambridge United away in the early-ninties, I was at Poly in the city at the time and had a spare ticket. Took an Asian lass, a flat mate, to the game and was embarrased by the racism. I stopped one lad, intent on giving Dion Dublin both barrels at every opportunity and he did apologise to my mate. Sadly, he continued for the rest of the game in the same vein. Bad times.

Atkinson was sacked by them in 1986. I have vague memories (again!) of playing them at home in the cup a few years before 1990. Strachan was playing for them then and was superb. Atkinson might have been managing them then. I was in the west stand paddock and the abuse Strachan was given was loud and constant as he played wide on the wing then, but rather than shy away or get abusive back he played it up with a cheeky smile on his face it was brilliant banter — he got a good applause for it at the end. I’ve never seen a player take stick so well the way he did that day.

Was the most packed I can ever remember it in the Gallowgate, was with me dad near the front of the Gallowgate. Strachan was class that game he scored a goal, and it's the only time I can remember the ball actually sticking in the stanchion against the net, right in front of us it was. Gazza took the piss out of McGrath something rotten that day, and he was class McGrath, we won 2 or 3-1, and we kept on winning and stayed up. I was right behind the goal too, was only about 8 or 9. Here ye are 5 seconds in, straight through the stanchion. Probably the best shot I've seen in the flesh. LeazesMag 0
that isn't the one I was thinking of, although I remember now as per the video. The one I remember was a cross shot from the "inside left" position into the other corner ? Same end of the ground though

Didn't it happen during the Swindon game that Parry was talking about in that vid? It was in at the Gallowgate end and I think was from a free kick about 25 yards out towards the west stand? Anyone's memory jogged??

However, I am probably completely wrong
