CleeToonFan 1
Last season's performance makes whether he had some 'moments' as a young lad irrelevant to me. You must be on the wind-up again, i thought he was your POTY? The quote was...... Gifted footballer, cunt of a man, smooth talker.......Basically Was my POTY, hope he stays, but not kidding myself what sort of man lurks beneath. A bit like Gazza, great footballer, daft as a brush. I think his constant ramblings / interviews and tweets are starting to grate. Barton daft as a Brush? Give over, his tweets are refreshing imho, it's nice to see a footballer say what's on his mind, and be interesting. In every one of his "misdemeanors" he seems to have been started on. Obviously no need for him to take the piss, but I think once someone starts he just sees red. I agree with others saying he has an anger problem, but wouldn't be pissed off being around him, seems like he can take the banter. Obviously the Blackburn incident is different, but I have no fucking idea what he was thinking of then.
JawD 99
(from the People, so likely bollocks) ARSENE WENGER is weighing up the most astonishing transfer swoop of the summer ... for Joey Barton. The Arsenal manager has finally accepted the need to inject some bite and experience into his team of perennial underachievers. And the Newcastle bad boy’s ability to tick both boxes means he is very much a candidate for the Frenchman. Wenger has been discussing Barton with senior members of his staff. And while he was a footballing pariah when he served a jail sentence for assault in 2008, Barton is believed to have kicked his drinking habit and improved his battered reputation on and off the pitch. Wenger must now decide whether or not to follow up his initial interest with a firm offer for Barton, who is available for around £1.5million. The midfielder has one year left to run on his £65,000-a-week contract at Newcastle but he has been told he will not be offered another deal. So the club, who last week parted with Kevin Nolan, are open to offers while they can still get a fee. And despite his repeated desire to stay at St James’ Park, at the same time Nolan left, Barton admitted he would have to consider a move himself if a Champions League club came knocking. He said: “I don’t want to leave Newcastle, my family’s settled in the area, I’ve got a great working relationship with everybody at the club. “But if someone came in and, hypothetically, offered me Champions League football, whether I’d signed a five, six or seven-year deal at Newcastle, I’d have to consider it.” Wenger has promised new signings will be made this summer – a deal for £12m-rated Lille and Ivory Coast striker Gervinho should be wrapped up soon – as he aims to end the Gunners’ six-year run without a trophy. tinofbeans 91
If he goes to Arsenal good luck to him. why. he loves the area he lives in, loves playing for the toon, and wants to stay. he'd have taken a pay cut. he would however give arsenal a nice bit of bite in midfield, something their technically perfect nancy boys don't really have. They have missed a Viera/Silva type player They were both central midfielders though, who never really created that much. Barton's best position is on the right, and he creates a lot more than Vieira or Silva did. I really don't get the comparison.
TheMoog 0
Barton's the one player I really don't want to see leave us, especially now he has his head screwed on. Was an awesome player for us last season and he looks to have really turned a corner with his anger management. Every good team needs a battling midfielder with some passion, like a Batty, Keane or Viera - I know we have Tiote but I just see Barton as being that much more due to his seniority within the squad and he's a distraction to the other teams. Club captain material for me, with maybe Colo as his No2.

I knew when I wrote that some cunt would comment on it, I just thought it would be Alex Barton played on the right for us last season but for me his best position is still CM. He would still be playing there if Tiote hadn't turned out to be such a revelation. Even when he starts on the right he spends a lot of his time coming inside and helping to break up play and start off attacks. Much the same way Viera did/does, he also created plenty of attacking situations tbf. Viera scored 50 goals for Arsenal and won the World Cup and European Championship. He wasn't some hatchet man who couldn't kick a ball.

He wasn't some hatchet man who couldn't kick a ball. He's looked more effective for us when playing out wide but i'd agree that he played his best football there for Man City. He was fantastic for a run of games under Keegan playing on the right of a 3. He played on the right of a 4 for us as no one else was good enough to play there. He made it his position by default. However, he is certainly not what i would call a wide player. There are enough question marks around his best position to make calling someone a cunt for having a different opinion a bit ridiculous too.
