jaythesouthernmag 0
So we'll get double the money in the summer. Great! I really REALLY just don't get this mindset My first thought was exactly the same as Isegrim -I wish I had your ability to see the best in Ashley Remind me how long ago Carroll signed his new contract again He did sign a new one recently but there's not many people who think the club were wrong to sell him for 35 mil, the timing was shit and as long as its reinvested then its good business. As for Tiote it shows he's happy here but everyone has a price. Let's not get negative, one of our best players has just signed a new contract
Christmas Tree 4711
The Carroll deal was utterly obscene. I personally would have sold him for £30 million up front, plus £5 million at a later date, plus a 25% sell on clause. You can't really blame Ashley for that. If we get a similar offer for Tiote chances are we probably would accept it too, not because the FCB is trying to fuck us over but because making £70 million on two players which cost around £3 million for us is the type of deal that is near enough impossible to turn down. Thankfully I don't currently think anyone would match the valuation the club will put on him. While contracts nowadays are all about making sure club and player profit in the event of a transfer rather than commitment the Carroll situation isn't that common. And nowt wrong with that in the financial world we now live in. If a player does leave, we might as well get as much as we can.

I really REALLY just don't get this mindset My first thought was exactly the same as Isegrim -I wish I had your ability to see the best in Ashley Remind me how long ago Carroll signed his new contract again It's not about seeing good in Ashley at all. Firstly - Carroll signed a new deal in October and then 3 months later wanted a new one or he was offski. What's not to like about this deal, really??? IF a champions league level teams comes in for a player you're basically fucked anyway, that's a fact of life in the modern game. What this deal means is that IF someone is/was considering making an offer they'd better have VERY deep pockets because he's going to cost a shedload of cash. It's a reasonable deterent unless silly money's on the table. Silly money as in £35 mill for Carroll. To me it says we don't want to sell, unless you knock our socks off, which is how it should be. Would it have been better to leave it be ?? Spot on.
Craig 6682
So we'll get double the money in the summer. Great! Indeed we will. Sign them up to long term contracts and then you can demand a bigger transfer fee.
Christmas Tree 4711
Aye, putting Ashley etc to one side, big congrats to the lad for signing when all around him are stalling and his agent must know the big boys would be sniffing in the summer. Well done Tiote.

So you don't deny that's FMA's intentions then? Seriously man you need to give your head a shake. Those that are likely to come in for him are the clubs occupying the top 6 places. And not one of them will think twice about financial outlay if they feel he'll vastly improve their squad. I can honestly see Man Utd interested in him given the state of their central midfield. Christmas Tree 4711
Barton could be a gonner. Tiote in the middle and then we potentially have Bena Arfa, Nolan, Gosling, Ireland and any identified incomings to fit into that team. Hope he's not like. Guest LeazesLad
As I said this means fuck all, absolute typical Ashley manoeveur, get a front man to shout the fanfare for something that in the grand scheme of things means nothing. At the end of the season Tiote, would've had two years on his deal, now it's going to be five, and as we all know the longer a contract the higher the likelyhood of a high fee. He got Hughton and Llambias to shout from the roof tops about it: Friday 8th October Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias was equally thrilled with the 21-year-old's new deal. He said: "We're dedicated to bringing exciting young players through our youth academy to play for the club. "Andy Carroll certainly fits that bill, having graduated through the ranks here, and we're extremely pleased to have agreed with him a new long-term deal. "Players like Andy are the future of this club and we have spent a long time putting together a deal that is right for both him and Newcastle United." 31st January 2011 Newcastle United have sold Andy Carroll to Liverpool in a record £35m deal. My pro Ashley mate on the text already "great news for NUFC this" pipe down #naivemugs

At the very least you want to make sure if that happens we get the best price possible surely.

Agree from that POV but that doesn't hide the fact that it's there's massive piece of propaganda from the club'. Giving it all the "we're ensuring Cheik remains here for the next 7 years". That's not true at all.

The only positives about this Tiote deal are, he gets a pay rise which no one at the club deserves more, and two if we can get through the summer with him still here, there's hope that an ambitious owner may come in and have the ambition to keep him whatever the cost because of the longer contract.
