A generation of Mike Ashley

If he pulls it off and keeps us in the top flight on a tight ship with the odd foray into Europe / cup run, he may well decide that the club provides an excellent ongoing billboard for his brand(s) as well as a hobby for him and his cronies and of course the associated kudos.

He doesn't seem like he will be forced out by unpopularity, nor does it seem like he will sell unless he is getting the deal of his life (see Carroll).

While I think we remain an attractive proposition for a buyer, perhaps we will slowly become a more and more attractive proposition for our owner.

Is it inconceivable he'll still be there in 10, 15 or 20 years?

On that thought, what is the longest any owner has held Newcastle and the longest ownership of a club in the top flight?

Edit: please move mods!

I've met many people in retail of a similar ilk to Ashley. Hard nose retailers in their 40's who've already made it big. Its not the money that drives them but the thrill of the deal and their ego.

I still have no doubt whatsoever that he would like nothing better than to make us successful, his way. He would love to ram it down the football worlds throats.

Equally, if a very good offer came in that would allow him to swagger off with a smile of his face, im also sure he'd be away.

The biggest problem is that footballs not the gravy train it once was, there is no easy loans from banks and its just not an attractive option any more. The days of the local johnny big balls being able to make a difference with the world high rollers are over.

As perverse as it is, we could do a lot worse than Ashley.

Most clubs are either financially fucked or have an owner with deep enough pockets to keep them aloft. We luckily fall into that category. Can you really imagine what Barry Moat would have done.

We probably are stuck with him for some time so we better start hoping Sports direct continues to soar and whatever plan they are working too comes off......Eventually.
