Alan Pardew set to bring Rennes' Sylvain Marveaux to Newcastle in summer

Newcastle United are close to agreeing a deal with the midfielder manager Alan Pardew had hoped would provide the crosses for £35million striker Andy Carroll.

Rennes player Sylvain Marveaux has been identified by Newcastle’s chief scout Graham Carr as the man to replace winger Wayne Routledge, who joined Queen’s Park Rangers on loan in the January transfer window.

Marveaux, 24, will be out of contract this summer and is close to signing a pre-contract agreement ahead of a move to St James’ Park.

He is a good player and as a free transfer he would be worth the risk. He is quite a good crosser of the ball and quite quick down the wing. I also heard he can play at full back to cover Jose. Pity we sold Carroll otherwise him on the left and Barton on the right would have gave him great service.

Another thing to note is Liverpool have been scouting him and I do believe he went as far as sitting I'm the directors box at anfield during a match.

If we get him then I would say Pardew is planning to sell someone in the summer and it could be barton if he doesn't sign a new contract unfortunately!

Why would you say that?

So any time we sign someone now is it going to be "this is the player who could have crossed / passed / assisted Andy Carroll" ?
