7 weeks ago Liverpool were a mess and we beat them 3-1

Pardew has impressed me with his ability to keep the b/s to a minimum and stay positive but look at Dogleash and compare how our fortunes have reversed. Not long ago we could laugh at Liverpool but that was very short lived.

Pardew is OK. With backing he isn't so bad as people think and could do a good job. However, is this you being blindly optimistic or pointing out how a good club should be run ?

Believe it or not Leazes I've never disagreed with most of what you say and feel the same way as you on more things than not.

Most people here are in that camp too. Shepherd/Hall were the first chairmen in my lifetime who've had the ambition to match the phenomenal support. The only thing any of us disagree with you about is the last few years of their time here when we were throwing borrowed money at mercenaries trying to get back to where we had been.

i dread to think where we might be in 7 weeks. in that time we play:

Arsenal

Blackburn

Birmingham

Bolton

Everton

Stoke City

Wolves

vital we pick up 6-9 points from that run. fuck knows where they're going to come from though. suddenly away trips to blackburn and brum and wolves at home don't look too easy.

I think you're right in that we need a minimum of 5 points anyway. That would leave us on 35 with 7 (tough) games left to go in the season. Still think 35 might keep you up actually. But that would be sqeaky bum time. Good in a way (yet a potential nightmare too I suppose) that we play West Brom at home last game as that helps us, in theory, determine our own fate.

Wtf? You couldn't ask for a much easier run, what's your point? How did we manage 8 points against Wigan, West Ham, Sunderland, and Spurs? With the exception of Spurs (away) and Stevenage I don't think we've played that badly since Caroll was injured. We always struggle away though, Blackburn away would never be a given even with Carroll.

This negativity about relegation is way, way over the top. We're still top half of the table man.

Nail on the head. It is a pretty depressing turn around in all.

why ? It won't be "derailed" at all unless some idiot comes on and spouts the usual bollocks about Shepherd being easily replaced by someone better and even worse makes comments that insinuate he ran the club all on his own despite owning less than 30% of the shares.

did you not see the match last night? the negativity is there because the one thing that has kept this side together for the past couple of seasons - a battling team spirit - seems to have vanished along with carroll. combine that with shola's injury and the outlook isn't that great all of a sudden.

i agree that we should get some points from those games but i'm worried about where they're going to come on last night's evidence. that was one of the most gutless performances since the relegation season.

the thing that s encouraging is our defence is still fairly solid so we should be able to pick up some points through clean sheets plus we've got tiote and barton to come back.

make no mistake though renton, we're in for a tough end to the season. the league is the tightest it's ever been there's no dead cert to go down as everyone keeps beating everyone else. all it takes is a small bad run of games and we're right in the shit.

and when you look at the strikers we've got available now, you've got to wonder who will score the goals to keep us up.

why the fuck didn't we get a striker on loan. people on here were turning their noses up at robbie keane at one point. scored on his west ham debut last night didn't he?

aye. If we manage to stay up, and we will have a fight on our hands now to stay out of the dogfight, what sort of players will be recruited in the summer ? Its far more likely, now, that the likes of Enrique, Tiotte, Barton will wonder what sort of club they are playing for.

Even after West Ham's win last night the bottom 3 are still averaging less than a point a game though. I take on board what you say etc. but if we don't have the 36-39 points you're on about with 7 games left we're by no means doomed. That's purely short-termed 'optimism' like, as I've said.

I watched the match on the telly, aye. Tbh I couldn't see anything wrong with the spirit of the team at all. It was just an off night against an in form club imo. Of course the lack of strikers is worrying but as I have said, that team put 5 past West Ham so I'm confident they can get enough goals at home to keep us up.

Not getting a striker on loan was stupid beyond belief, I agree. Unforgiveable infact. I was guessing in Keane's case though he might want to stay in London rather than move here on the basis of a 6 month loan deal. Next year we're fucked unles Ashley does something very surprising though imo.

i think we're probably going to be ok because of the amount of points already on the board but we're in for a shit sandwich of an end to the season if last night was anything to go on. there's usually one that sinks like a stone isn't there.

i reckon we'll finish about 16th or 17th but it's going to be a lot closer than it should have been if he'd just let hughton get on with it and kept carroll (or at least replaced him).

the key thing is how carroll is replaced in the summer. the squad's still paper thin and needs big investment if we're not to go down next year. we've been pretty lucky with injuries so far this season tbh

fulham were shit mate. they were there for the taking. i thought our lot were spiritless. heads went down as soon as they scored. no urgency. still, in their defence they had fuck all to aim at up front.

Even after West Ham's win last night the bottom 3 are still averaging less than a point a game though. I take on board what you say etc. but if we don't have the 36-39 points you're on about with 7 games left we're by no means doomed. That's purely short-termed 'optimism' like, as I've said.

i think we're probably going to be ok because of the amount of points already on the board but we're in for a shit sandwich of an end to the season if last night was anything to go on. there's usually one that sinks like a stone isn't there.

i reckon we'll finish about 16th or 17th but it's going to be a lot closer than it should have been if he'd just let hughton get on with it and kept carroll (or at least replaced him).

the key thing is how carroll is replaced in the summer. the squad's still paper thin and needs big investment if we're not to go down next year. we've been pretty lucky with injuries so far this season tbh

I know what you're saying. I agree in the main.

i feel like i'm living up to my username today. it's just so frustrating seeing what the fat twat has done to the club. against all odds, we were looking like having a half decent season. you'd have thought that would make him happy as an owner but he seems intent on doing his very best to fuck it up every time there's a glimmer of optimism about the place.
