Not excusing their performances btw, but rather than 'He's spent £100m and performances have been poor', a less snappy but fairer summary would be 'Someone has chosen to sell £100m worth of talent from his squad and replace it with £100m worth of other talent, and he hasn't been able to get the players he's been given performing well'.

Spot on for me JJ, coaches deserve a certain amount of sympathy as nowadays they often don't get to choose the players they wprk with, but often they do know this before they sign up. Someone may be able to do it mind, Redknapp, whatever we think of him personally, got a huge amount out of the players he inherited from Ramos, and was then allowed to bring his own in.

Aguero out for a month, going to be interesting to see if Negredo, Jovetic and Dzeko can pick up the slack.

Zola has resigned as Watford boss. I wouldn't be surprised if, like hs says, he joins West Brom. Also, given the close relationship he has with many of their Italian players, will the new man be able to keep them mid-table? Might be a job for one of the many managers who operate in that Lower-Prem/Upper Champ area? Holloway, Clarke etc.

Put a Quid on Sunderland to beat Chelsea today. Mackems aren’t great, but Poyet will look at this as an opportunity to get some momentum, while the League cup is nothing but a distraction for Mourinho. That being said; even a 3rd rate Chelsea side is better than the 20th rate sunderland. I just reckon they might do them over. They’ve got Norwich at the SoS, then two tough away trips to Everton and Cardiff, then host Aston Villa. A cup win against one of the league’s big boys may spur them on to get 5+pts from those, a crushing defeat may mean 1 or 2pts instead.

Dempsey apparently returning to Fulham for a 2 Month loan. Good move by them, they’re lacking his driven performances and certainly his goals.

2001 Arsenal (a)
3-1
(0-1)
Premiership
O'Brien(60), Shearer(86pen), Robert(90)
Pires(20)
38,012

Conceding once but being battered, Ray Parlour's dismissal just before the half-time break gave United some hope.

Craig Bellamy then walked for allegedly striking cheat Ashley Cole in the face (later rescinded) before Andy O'Brien equalised.

Alan Shearer then converted a penalty and Laurent Robert strode clear to secure United's first capital win for over five years - an amazing night that also saw us top the table.

Uri Geller later claimed credit for it all....

You suffer from the romantic Newcastle fan disease of being far too forgiving of flair players, long after they've stopped consistently producing. Ben Arfa will be the next and you will be amongst a crowd happy to continue to make excuses for him.

You know damn well we were for more enjoyable to watch with flair players, than we've been with grafters. Robert and his uilk got us into the Champions League, Jonas got us relegated.

Flair = Champions League, Graft = Championship.

Dave Wins.

Gemmill loses.

Nobody is surprised.

Robert had stopped producing and looked disinterested. That's when I had a problem with him, and you couldn't see it. You were young and stupid, now you're older, but apparently still stupid. I remain wise.

Your forgetting that he looked disheartened and disillusioned because of your mate; Souness. The one who turned a Champions League chasing team into a terrible football side.

Grafting, gurning, grouchy Graeme Souness. The man who bought Babayaro and Boumsong, who sold Bellamy... the man you supported more than is reasonable.
