Monroe Transfer 0
This is brilliant. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-21401047 A football club chairman has given his Aston Martin car to the team's manager as a reward for an 8-1 victory. Mansfield Town chairman John Radford handed over the keys to Paul Cox following the win over Barrow on Saturday. The Blue Square Premier team won 7-0 when they played Barrow last March and Radford said he wanted to do even better when the two teams met again. "It's worth a bob or two," Mr Radford said. 'Top guy' "It's my old Aston Martin so it's not brand new. It's a couple of years old," he added. "You have these things and you've got to give people targets and things like that, so he fancied the car and I thought I'm about ready for a change and he did the job." The car, worth up to £80,000, was waiting in the car park of the Nottinghamshire club after the game, already fitted with personalised MT51 COX registration plates. Cox told BBC Radio 5 live it was "a bit surreal to be honest". He said: "I didn't really take him at face value when we was talking but to be fair to the man he's a top guy and when he did it, it was unbelievable. "I love cars. I think every man does, don't they, but it's the football that motivates me." http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p014wnc3

Howay 12496
They didn't really do better [/pedant] I had a teacher that anytime Newcastle lost would tell us he had it worse because he supported Mansfield. He'd always tell us about how they were 5-0 up in the 85th minute and went on to lose the match 5-6, with the 6th hit in from 40 yards as the left back and goalie were arguing about who was to blame for conceding the 5th. No idea if this was true but always makes me laugh when I hear about Mansfield.

PaddockLad 17281
"Two steps could be taken to improve transparency. Firstly, publish the wages of players, as they do in the US sports, so there is no mystique about salaries. Secondly, as well as publishing how much a club spend on agents – as the Football League and Premier League do every year – break down those fees to the individual agents and their companies. Let's see which agents and clubs share an especially close relationship." http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/feb/17/gary-neville-football-agents-player-wages Gary Neville is a stand up bloke. Like him a lot. You dont have to agree with his more emotional outbursts as a player (the "lets strike for Rio" whilst on England duty springs to mind, but he was only a young un then) to see that he has a pretty good sense of what is right and wrong in the game. If the FA had a real desire for change he'd be brilliant in a senior role there, but theres too many vested interests at that place to let someone with a bit of common sense through the door. PaddockLad 17281
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/feb/18/arsene-wenger-arsenal-transcript Looks like our saintly bretheren in her maiesty's press corps have completely rattled Monsieur Wenger this time Poor fucker, after what he's done for that club, theres little gratitude going round. He invented the modern Arsenal, in a similar way that Keegan invented the modern Newcastle united i.e. the key figure of the late 20th/early 21st century. I think Keegan gets a lot more credit up here than Wenger does down there. If he gets hounded out all they need to do is look where Liverpool are for what state they could end up in if they get the next appointment wrong, and its a lot more likely to go that way as long as there are two different warring factions at board level.
