Will Carroll flop at Liverpool?

Childish comments. You can't blame him for going to a club trying to win trophies. We were like that ourselves once, and if we still were, he would still be here.

you're not really answering the thread question are you? We've heard this line from you a million times before and you're right but do you think he'll succeed at Liverpool?

I was wondering as well whether he'll fit in with their style of play. They're not really a lump it up to the big man sort of side.

I think he will flop for sure. Let's have a look, in detail, at his scoring record this season:

20 appearances (19 league, 1 cup) - 11 goals (all league)

A hat-trick against a dejected Villa side without a manager - doesn't count

A goal against Chelsea resulting from an abhorrent mistake in their defence during a poor run of form - doesn't count

A goal against a losing Liverpool side who did not close him down and afforded him acres of time and space - doesn't count

A goal against a Bolton side who were 3-0 up and had stopped trying - doesn't count

The rest of his goals were headers from within 10 yards of goal and it is questionable whether they count or not; I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here, to avoid any bias in my analysis.

In conclusion, Liverpool have spent £40 million total on an injury-prone player who has scored 5 PL goals (of questionable validity) - which were the product of good service, rather than good finishing - in 19 appearances. He may develop over the years into a player who will reach double figures over a season in the PL, but as of yet he is way off this standard. I hope they are happy with their purchase.

of course he'll succeed. Spite doesn't come into such an assessment. That is what I posted.

I hope they discover iin due course that he has an injury problem that takes ages to fix. Then he aggravates things by going out on the lash and falling over on it. He goes on more benders to cope with the pressure of recovery and ends up getting into a fight in McDonalds with a teenage pikey, resulting in a lengthy spell in prison for ABH. Then just on the point of recovery he gets shopped to the police by a jilted girlfriend who it turns out is underage and he goes back to prison again. On release he gets shot in the arse in a mafia drive by over unsettled gambling debts and Liverpool cancel his contract.

Not that I'm bitter.

They already have in place a creative foil in the form of Suarez. I've likened him, based on what i've seen of him to Bellamy abit - he brings aggression to the table as well, to compliment his technical ability. If he can acclimatise to the unrelenting pace of the premiership they have the classic big-small strike-force in set in place. That's step one of the final 1/3 restructuring put in place already.

Step 2 will be about retooling the wide options, providing true left-right balance. An ambitious club like Liverpool will properly address in the Summer, there'll be no trolling around the lower leagues [and far off outposts] banking their hopes on cheap-as-peanuts 'chancers' coming good.

The acquisition of Carroll [as expensive as it was] is about a much bigger picture, as it would have been for Spurs [to compliment their already existing attacking/creative options, particularly thier wide play]. From an attacking perspective Carroll would've been Harry's icing on the cake.

Liverpool's net spend was only £1.5m this window, they've got plenty to spend in the summer.

I dont want him to be but i reckon he will be heartbreakingly good for them.

This is my prediction. Whilst hoping for piss ups and punch ups and failure I think he will be stupidly good for them like he was for us - although in a better team. It will probably represent value for money in 5 years time despite scousers current apprehension in regards to the fee.

To be honest the fans want Carroll not money so this is always going to sting. Some people I spoke to were bemused but it's going to be painful watching him bang goals in for Liverpool. Fucking Liverpool man, what a bunch of cunts!

Thats the faint glimmer of hope Tom, he does a Robbie Keane and we make a profit on him whilst he grows up.

We can hope for that and he does have plenty of chinks in his psychological armour, but he also has the kind of game that is ideal for the PL. There is a good chance he will do well. It will he horrible watching him in a red shirt.

Can I go with "The new Emile Heskey" as an option? Good initial burst of form, which after a year or so will die down to the point where people don't see a good-but-not-£35m player, only the £35m price-tag.

One thing for sure, defences will really start to give him special attention. Crouch has gone downhill cause of this and isn't clever enough to rejig his game.

+1......... Awaiting a rolling of the eyes from Mr Contrary Tree.

Just as it was growing up & watching Waddle, Beardsley & Gazza play througgh the prime of their careers at greener pastures.

Just a day dream that Gerrard, Carragher and the heart of the team break down and while they'd love to keep playing their bodies just cannot sustain the fitness. The team falters without their heart and stumbles against "lesser" sides, prompting Reina and the few remaining quality players upping sticks at the end of the season, leaving Liverpool in the bottom half of the table with want-away stars. Carroll has been decent but nothing like a £35m striker should be and average form and off-field problems means Dalglish loses more and more patience with the lad.

The following season he suffers an injury and a now troubled liverpool look to the transfer market to find a goal scorer. They cast their eyes North once more and approach Newcastle for their breakout star "Ehm, can we sign Ranger for £25m, la?"

As leader of a consortium I send a flaming shit in a bag to them by courier with a scouser-gram telling them to "Ehm, go fuck themselves, fucking la"

we then re-sign Carroll for fuck all and barely notice as they slip into a relegation scrap with sunderland, Wigan and Blackburn, none of whom survive thanks to fresh laws at the FA.

However, I think he'll do well, score another 10 goals or so this season, be a mainstay in the national side and stay at Liverpool for another 3-5 seasons at least, before moving on once more. Meanwhile, we'll have survived this season and got relegated the next because we've been unable to replace a striker that cost us nothing but wages and support. :D But like the Murphys and all that .

Flop? I don't think he'll 'flop' as such, but I just don't see £35m worth of 'success' tbh. He's just a younger - perhaps slightly better than at his age - John Carew.

Anyway, I hope he does flop and flops badly. He doesn't play for NUFC so his failure is what I want.

Can see him and Suarez being lethal together (on the pitch). Will be interesting to see them both playing together and whether they click or not.

Suarez vs Gyan, Muntari & Mensah is going to be interesting as well. :D

Be interesting to see how Carroll would take it if Suarez was massively outscoring him. He started putting in the performances for us when he became the main man, i.e when the big name strikers left the club when we were relegated.
