Because the price was so high.

Exactly. I'm not saying otherwise.

You seemed confident they were telling the truth when they said they wouldn't accept an offer....whatever package was put together. Others weren't so confident in club statements.

I'd call offering hundred pound bets on that misreading the club.

Be interesting to see whether the club report Liverpool for tapping up the player. How else would he know what his potential new salary was?

I hope you're joking.

Sure we could get another £10m out of them...

Both parties could have said no.

If the club really wanted him then they could have stopped this.

Contracts are not an issue. Ashley could have said. "Carry on in this form until the summer and i'll give you x amount."

Your sig  Heart breaking. I don't think this should ever be removed or forgotten.

I actually put that up around Dec 10 as well. It was if Pardew knew it would happen.

I know mate, I've looked at it with horror everyday since you put it on.

Course he knew. It was decided over a game of 5s and 3s and a keg of Gladiator.

Aye, Carroll handed in the transfer request as favour to the club.

If people didnt rush to fit events to pre-determined points of view and instead analysed the facts, the debtate around this club would be a lot better.

Wouldn't have thought you'd be as superior as usual for a while, after your 100% guarantee that Carroll wouldn't be sold in this window.

I read Carroll wrong and not the club. Understandable given his comments.

It wasnt a guarantee either, it was a bet that nae one wanted. I'm more upset about this than when Cole left because am a hopeless bellend of a romantic who loved the fact that we had a home grown number 9. If you think i'm going to pipe down as i was convinced he would stay then you're wrong.

How did you not read the club wrong?

They've chosen to sell the lad when he's tied up on a five year contract.

I dont think Man U wanted rid of Ronaldo but they sold him.

What about when Rooney put in a transfer request? The club took the time to speak to the boy and work things out.

What happened here was;

Bid for 35m - Rejected

Transfer Request - Accepted within 10 minutes

Bid Accepted

That doesn't work. Transfer requests can be knocked back and contracts re-negotiated to bring him closer in line with what he's valued at in the current marketplace.

Err...Think Rooney got a massive pay rise out of it.

The Ronaldo situation was completely different seeing as he'd been angling for a move to Real Madrid (who he also supported) for at least two seasons. The speed with which this deal was completed though does suggest to me that all parties were (more or less) happy to go ahead.

Fabregas would be a better example.

ALAN PARDEW has vowed to battle on without Andy Carroll after losing his 11-goal top scorer to Liverpool.

The Newcastle United boss did not have enough time to conjure up a replacement for the Geordie striker before the transfew window closed.

But the Chronicle understands that Pardew may be interested in bringing in West Ham United striker Carlton Cole in the summer.

However, while Newcastle fans ponder a future without their talisman No 9, Pardew today gave his insight on the £35million deal that rocked football.

He told the Chronicle exclusively: “There was an offer refused in the morning and then we received a second improved offer.

“Myself, Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias were having a discussion when Andy Carroll poked his head around the door and said he wanted to see me.

“I had the conversation with Andy.

“He said he wanted a new contract now that would make him the highest paid player at the club.

“This from a guy who had signed a new deal just a few months ago.

“I asked him what he wanted but he didn’t reply.”

Pardew was left to assess his options going into tomorrow night’s trip to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham, with Shola Ameobi and Leon Best in the frame to lead the line in the capital.

Nile Ranger and Peter Lovenkrands will also be keen to stake a claim and, going forward, Phil Airey – currently nursing a hamstring injury – will hope to follow in the footsteps of fellow Academy product Carroll.

But while Pardew insisted from the first day in the job that did not want to sell, he feels the implications of Carroll smashing the club’s wage structure would not have been the right move for the Magpies.

He said: “We did not want to do anything to destabilise the club.

“Derek contacted Andy’s agent and said that if he wants to go we need a written transfer request, which he gave us.

“It was fairly evident once that came in we would have to accept the offer, but still at that point he didn’t have to go.

“My job now is to take this club forward with out him.”

Departing Spanish striker Xisco has reflected on his loan move to Deportivo la Coruna.

The £5.6m player said: “It is a pity that things didn’t work for me in England.”

They rejected a bid of £35m before he put a transfer request in.

Apparently that happened in 7 (seven) minutes which is proof that they didnt really reject they were just saying they were whilst they convinced Carroll to hand in a transfer request so they could go back and accept it.

Unlikely imo.

Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll

ANDY Carroll told the Chronicle how he felt he was pushed out of Newcastle United.

Following his £35m move to Liverpool, the Gateshead-born forward said he wanted to stay on Tyneside.

Today the striker poured his heart out as the club explained why they “reluctantly” allowed their prized asset to leave when he submitted a written transfer request after they initially rejected bids from Liverpool.

Carroll said: “I was in talks about a new contract and talking to the gaffer about that.

“He told me that they are now not going to give me a contract. That was as soon as the offer of £30m came in.

“So I asked why (I wasn’t getting a new contract) and he said his hands were tied.

“He said it wasn’t up to him. Then a £35m bid got accepted.

“And then I was allowed to talk to Liverpool. The owner then made it clear to me that I was not wanted at the club.

“Saying that his own helicopter is waiting for me to go down to talk to them.

“So being shown I’m not wanted I said OK I will talk to them. Then suddenly the bid was rejected.

“And then Derek asked me to hand in a transfer request. So I was pushed into a corner and had no choice.

“I wasn’t wanted by them and they made it clear they wanted the money.

“Then I flew down in his (Ashley’s) helicopter. I didn’t want to leave.

“I’m gutted that I wasn’t wanted at my home team after everything I’ve done and progress I’ve made.

“I didn’t want to leave at all. Make sure they know I didn’t want to leave.

“The players, staff and fans were fantastic.”

I wasn't searching for a perfect analogy, i was looking for an example of a club selling a player they would have preferred to keep.

Carroll is no genius, but if this isn't true, he'd have to be a fucking idiot to come out with it given what any Liverpool fan seeing it is gonna think.

Even if it's true it's of very little benefit to him to go public with it. Which makes me think it probably is true.

Carroll just randomly wandering around the halls of SJP, "pops his head round the door".

"Errr guys. Sorry to interrupt, but could I have a quick chat with Alan?"

Well to see why the folks at West Ham thought Mildew needed PR lessons, what a thick twat

 I think he's hamming it up, but I can't think why he would go to this extent to save face whilst potentially alienating himself from the fans at his new club.
