“We took the view, with him signing a contract in October, that this would cause us all sorts of problems.

why stop there? renegotiating his contract so soon because of the exceptional circumstances of another club offering fucking 3-4 times his current deal would have thrown the entire north east economy into complete chaos. where would it end? god knows how many lives this decision has saved. thank god for mike ashley.

However, Pardew has taken Ashley’s assurances that the fee will be spent on players in the summer, and beyond, at face value.

“We weren’t expecting him to go, so we weren’t in a position to replace him,” added Pardew.

“One thing I can guarantee, having spoke to Mike Ashley, is that every penny will go back into the club. Mike’s assured me he won’t take a penny out of the transfer.”

Aye we might see £35 million spent but over how many transfer windows? The next 4 or 5 years?

We can't generate offers for players fast enough for Ashley. Steve Taylor's contract almost came to an end while we waited for someone to give us this headache.

Anyone got the quote where he had "100% assurance" that Carroll wouldn't leave? Come summer, I bet we bring in more than we spend again.

Look no further than this....

Caulkin just tweetted.

Pardew:

I can’t say to you strong enough that Andy Carroll will not leave this club in this transfer window. 100 percent.

No bid then.

And then there's this little bundle of joy

from same source as the hughton /pardew rumour .wreckons its a cash deal .if you dont want to believe it then dont .im just reporting what ive heard .ashley wants the money not the players offered .spuds said dont play him until deal is done type of thing and put out hes injured to the media

Can you really see AC agreeing to fuck US over in that way?

What loyalty does he have to us?

Quite a lot, i would say.

I'll happily take a charity bet of £100 on whether he will be here in Feb.

Wish I'd taken you up on that offer Chez

Aye, Carroll handed in the transfer request as favour to the club.

If people didnt rush to fit events to pre-determined points of view and instead analysed the facts, the debtate around this club would be a lot better.

Wouldn't have thought you'd be as superior as usual for a while, after your 100% guarantee that Carroll wouldn't be sold in this window.

I read Carroll wrong and not the club. Understandable given his comments.

It wasnt a guarantee either, it was a bet that nae one wanted. I'm more upset about this than when Cole left because am a hopeless bellend of a romantic who loved the fact that we had a home grown number 9. If you think i'm going to pipe down as i was convinced he would stay then you're wrong.

How did you not read the club wrong?

They've chosen to sell the lad when he's tied up on a five year contract.

I dont think Man U wanted rid of Ronaldo but they sold him.

What about when Rooney put in a transfer request? The club took the time to speak to the boy and work things out.

What happened here was;

Bid for 35m - Rejected

Transfer Request - Accepted within 10 minutes

Bid Accepted

That doesn't work. Transfer requests can be knocked back and contracts re-negotiated to bring him closer in line with what he's valued at in the current marketplace.

Its interesting you bring up Rooney, the reason he stayed was because of his concern for his public reputation with the club be was potentially leaving.

The difference here being the club's willingness to match his potential wages and Ronney being a scouser.

I believe that Andy Carroll is another one of those money grabbing little shits. The fact that we rejected 3 offers over 25 million then all of a sudden he hands his request in, smells. He had a new contract in October, so see through to the summer, and then sit down and plead your case for more money. Don't be a cheeky little shit and on transfer deadline day go in and talk contracts. Fuck off! Was gutted that he's left, but now I don't care and I hope he's mugged, bummed, and in the slammer in scouseland. Because I am sure he'll flop there, and end up been the 'village bike' of football, moving from clubs like fulham, bolton, stoke etc etc

“I went to see Andy, and face to face we had a conversation about him wanting a new contract, even though he signed on in October, and (he said) if he didn’t get that contract, he wanted go.

.”

Yep thats the way contract negotiations work - Pardew and the player thrash it out between them and then the agents and aashley sign what they agree to

That's it, like. We wouldn't raise his wages to what he's valued at so we've engineered the move tbh.

I honestly and truely believe Carroll will be somewhere now absolutely fucking gutted he's left NUFC and wishes he was still here. I truely believe that. A lot of people will laugh but I do think he'd have been more than happy to stay here.

If we'd have just sent him away, said he was injured(which he is) and lied a little over the length of injury then the offers wouldn't have been made.

I maybe over-react but emotions are running at an all time artery bursting high and I honestly can't see any improvement being made to the running and direction of this club until the time the owner sells up.

I'd let him keep his £35m if he fucked off today. In fact, I'd wire him 10 grand myself as a goodwill gesture on the understanding he never ever returns to the area.

Ultimately a player will get the move they want. It's up to the club when that is though. Man U got an extra season out of Ronaldo before moving him on on their terms. They held onto Rooney as Mac says. Arsenal still have Fabregas when he clearly wants to be in Barcelona. Barry stayed at Villa much longer than he wanted to.

Even Blackpool kept Charlie Adam.

Ashley folded faster than a victorian washer-woman.

If he cared about the club half as much as he made out, he would still be in the North East. But he was more interested in numbers in his pay-packet than the club. as if 20-30 thousand a week isnt enough. I will love it if we finish above Liverpool. A big 'fuck you' to Carroll.

The Ronaldo situation was completely different seeing as he'd been angling for a move to Real Madrid (who he also supported) for at least two seasons. The speed with which this deal was completed though does suggest to me that all parties were (more or less) happy to go ahead.
