Sonatine 11596
LLAMBIAS REJECTS SHEARER CRITICISMPosted 02/02/11 07:34 Newcastle manager director Derek Llambias has hit back at Alan Shearer over his criticism of Andy Carroll's sale to Liverpool, claiming he does not care what the club's record goalscorer and former manager has to say. Former star striker Shearer found the £35m departure of star striker Carroll on Monday "staggering" given they had brought nobody in to replace the 22-year-old, and after reassurances he would not be sold. But Llambias said in The Sun: "Do I care what Alan Shearer has to say? "When he ran this football club [in 2009] we were relegated after picking up just five points from his eight games in charge." Shearer called for the money received for Carroll - a British record transfer fee that was quickly broken when the Merseysiders sold Fernando Torres to Chelsea for a fee believed to be around £50million - to be reinvested in players in the summer. But Llambias insisted: "[Owner] Mike Ashley has only ever put money into this football club. He has never taken a single penny out. "And he won't take a single penny of this £35m either - all the money will go to the club and we are already working on identifying transfer targets for the summer." Charming man that Derek Llambias....
Toonpack 10000
If Pardew's planning to spend the money on Carlton Cole, I'd rather it went into Ashley's pocket. Can you please explain how that can happen legally ?? The money's used to repay Ashley's loan to the club..... So reduction of a liability then, not back pocket
Sonatine 11596
How Mike Ashley cashed his chips and left Alan Pardew looking like the transfer window's biggest loser By Oliver Holt I thought Mike Ashley was supposed be Alan Pardew's mate. I thought they had bonded together over the blackjack table at a London casino. I thought they had gazed happily into each other's eyes as Ashley blew a mountain of cash on craps. I thought that Pardew being mates with Ashley and casino boss Derek Llambias helped him get the Newcastle United job. But mates don't make mates look like bloody idiots and, let's face it, this morning Pardew looks like a bloody idiot. Yes, Newcastle got £35m for Andy Carroll, a stunning price for a lad who has only played a smattering of games in the Premier League. And murky waters have been muddied further by Pardew's suggestions that Carroll got greedy. Pardew said that when Liverpool's second offer came in, Carroll demanded a move if Newcastle did not increase his wages immediately. Carroll denies that version of events anyway but even if he had stayed silent, it would not change one salient fact. From the first day Pardew walked into St James' Park less than two months ago, he staked his credibility on the promise that Carroll would not be sold. It was his way of asserting his independence, his way of saying he had not been brought in just to be Ashley's go-to poodle. "Andy Carroll's future was one of the items at the top of my agenda," Pardew said on the day he took over. "When I sat down with Derek last night, Andy Carroll came up, and he stays." At the beginning of this month, Pardew was just as adamant that Carroll would not be sold. "We will give the answer to any club that Andy is not for sale," Pardew said. "I can't say strongly enough that Andy will not leave in this window." Ten days later, irritation had begun to enter his voice and he mocked those who were convinced Ashley would sell Carroll at the first sniff of a decent bid. "They can put together whatever they like," he said of other clubs' intentions. "He is not for sale. One last time, he is not for sale." Poor Pardew. How must he feel today, his dignity shot to pieces, an apologist for an owner who has sunk to new depths of unpopularity on Tyneside. Pardew talked the talk but couldn't walk the walk. When it came to the crunch, everyone knew what was going to happen: Ashley would sell Carroll and Pardew would suck it up. It was never going to be any other way. A stronger manager would have quit the moment Carroll was dragged onto the helicopter to Liverpool. But for Ashley, the joy of Pardew is that he desperately needs the job. He was treated appallingly at Southampton and, after failing at Charlton, Newcastle could be his last shot at the big time. He is a good manager in dire need of a lucky break, but sadly this isn't it. Monday night made him look like a dupe, like the patsy brought in to take the fall. Ashley needed Pardew to be the guy who would stand in front of the media and try to justify the latest sad episode in the sob-story that is Newcastle United. Because after all the drama of transfer deadline-day, Newcastle were the team with the tears rolling down their cheeks when the music stopped. Chelsea were the big winners with the signing of Fernando Torres and at least Liverpool got Carroll as a consolation. Newcastle? When the slow songs started at the end of the evening, there was nobody left to hold their hand. Sure, Ashley got a stunning price for Carroll. And if he had reinvested some of it - any of it - in the team, maybe Newcastle fans wouldn't feel so sore. Er, that's the tricky part. They got nothing. So after an encouraging first half of the season, Newcastle are back in familiar territory: the team that everyone else feels sorry for. By selling Carroll and not securing a replacement, they swapped a shot at a Europa League place for what is likely to become a fight against relegation. They lost all the heady optimism that had come with having a Geordie wearing the famous number 9 shirt again, the shirt that Jackie Milburn and Alan Shearer wore. Then Ashley and Pardew sold him. Even though he said he didn't want to go. Even though he wanted to stay and play for his hometown team. Pardew said yesterday he would be allowed to spend the money in the summer, but after all the broken promises about Carroll, there is only one logical reaction to that: Yeah, right. ChezGiven 0
I dont know how we were losing that much when the wage bill dropped by as much as the fall off in TV money in the championship. I know we lost out on other revenues but not to the tune of £20m. I'm no Gemmill but when i looked at the finances the last time, i thought we would have had bit of cash to spend this year. Maybe thats where the £5m for Ben Arfa came in though. However, the Carroll money should mean a revenue of over £100m this year. Lets keep that figure top of mind. Retired ex players can sometimes just be arrogantly throwing their weight around with their comments but Shearer is right here, and is also highly regarded by the supporters. Llambias's immature, irrelevant and inaccurate (he wasn't responsible for our relegation) response again just underlines how little he understands the club or cares what its supporters think. GeeForce 0
I have serious issues with this deal, it could end up having zero effect on us in the transfer market in the summer, even if we spend the £35m on players and wages. Look at it this way, IF we had not sold Andy you would expect a club of our size to spend approx £15m on players in a summer transfer window provided we stay up. That doesn't get you much. Now look at what Pardew is saying, the £35m and I stress only £35m (so immediately no transfer budget for summer) will be spent. First of all Ashley has already made a profit IF only £35m is spent on players and wages because of the net effect to the club of not paying Carroll's 35k p/w (approx £9.1m over 5 years) Effectively then, we would only be spending £25.9m after our saving on his wages. Then, AFTER this figure, Pardew says player sales AND WAGES will be taken account of. Therefore if we sign one player for £15.0m on 35k p/w on 5 1/2 year deal (£10.36m) we are left with a net spend of -£540k. This translates in to Fatty making a profit simply because he is including the wages spent on players. Furthermore, I would suggest some more people will be out the door in summer (Smith, Xisco etc on 50k p/w +), Barton to sign a heavily reduced wage contract. Will all this be taken account of? I think not! In order to actually spend Carrolls money + wages + wages and fees for other players that leave + summer transfer budget we should be looking at approx £80m spend combined on fees and wages (Massively depends on people leaving but can be used as an approximation) Pardew has confirmed £35m will be spent on both wages and fees. That is a net profit, over 5 years, of £55m from selling Carroll and summer transfer dealings. This not taking account of interest gained on the money. If you wanna show your worth Fatty, you need to be spending above the figure of £80m (break even point) not £35m. Us fans are not mugs and will not be fooled. Barney 0
It is not an affluent club in terms of what other big clubs can produce in terms of salaries and fees for players. Why fucking not? There will be £35m available and all of it will be spent, but it would be on fees AND wages As KSA says, 'so it begins'.

Is it any wonder we fucking hate these cunts, everytime the speccy imbecile opens his gob he says something that's insulting, patronising or downright fucking lies. What happened to "appointing Shearer was the best decision I've ever made"? Words cannot describe how much unhealthy hatred I have for these two cunts. Agreed. Haven't we got some new media relations woman (Wendy something?) that should advise about making stupid incendiary comments, or do they just not give a fuck anymore? ewerk 31230
The last published accounts were for the relegation season, so we don't yet know how we did in the Championship. Not to mention that the published accounts include a hefty amortisation charge. shackbleep 0
"And he won't take a single penny of this £35m either - all the money will go to the club and we are already working on identifying transfer targets for the summer." Problem is that Shearer falls into the same category Keegan does. Someone who passionately loves the club who have seen these retards at work from the inside and aren't afraid to talk about it publically. Nothing that Mike and Dekka can do about it so they choose to try to damage his name.
