BlythSpartan 0
In all fainess to Carroll when Liverpool were making him a double your money offer he was probably right to ask Newcastle if they were taking the piss in expecting him to be on 1/2 what he's worth for 5 years. Don't get me wrong I think even £200,000 a year would be obscene for a footballer, but he's been brought up in a different mentality, surrounded by mercenary footballers and agents. Dr Gloom 22190
Having just seen Pardew's press conference for the first time, I'm actually beginning to think that Carroll may well have been the catalyst himself. The bit about wanting the new contract now or wanting the opportunity to speak to Liverpool being met with "you need to put that in writing Andy" does seem plausible. I still have massive questions with regards the quick timescale between bid rejection, transfer request submitted & bid being accepted but having watched the interview I'm coming to the conclusion that either Pardew is a fucking tremendous liar or he's saying it as it is. That said, the club still aren't squeaky clean in all of this - allowing him to use the owner's helicopter to get to his destination? WTF! This is the bloke who won't pay a decent wage for a fucking loanee! he'd probably let dalglish shag his nan for £35m man

It's what clubs do to agitate moves, tell the agent that they will double the money etc... Anyway trying to renegotiat e new deal while a transfer is pending is blackmail and diengenous. Fuck him. BlythSpartan 0
I don't disagree, totally wrong to do it (if he did), just trying to understand it I suppose. But then professional footballers are just that aren't they? No matter what they say they aren't fans (except Matt leTissier!). They were basically asking him to forfeit well in excess of £10m so he could waste the next five years of his career at a going-nowhere cowboy outfit. They might be able to exploit the supporters loyalty but Carroll is a professional footballer and quite rightly wasn’t prepared to be a mug. Asprilla 96
Very annoyed after reading that interview. My view was he wanted the $$$ and wanted out. It's too easy to blame the owners but when you got a star player who makes a difference you don't sell. Especially when you got a weak squad. or you sell him, but you make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to get in a suitable replacement or two. exactly, it's not Carroll's fault our owners are greedy spackers. His shit eating grin doesn't suggest he's too bothered though.... Serious question - what are you expecting? That he sits and cries all the way through the interview? Not at all but unless he's an excellent actor then he doesn't look as bothered as his text story bollocks would suggest. I'd settle for wide eyed nervousness but shit eating grin is too far...! Especially the interview. Basically saying Newcastle were a stepping stone to where he is now. However true that is, those aren't the words of someone who's gutted to be leaving his home town club. Park Life 71
Asking for a new contract so quickly was just a ploy by Carroll and his agent to get away. That's it basically. MA for all his faults has put a sensible structure in place and we have to stick to it. Spurs missed out on a few players a few years back but in the long run they have been rewarded. Guest Your Name Here
Clubs don’t pay £35m for player and then release an ad-hoc interview on their website. These things are stage managed, designed to send out the right message. They don’t just stick a mic under the player’s nose and see what he says. He’s put a structure in place for running the club on the cheap so he can claw back the money he’s loaned it to hide the real cost of his many mistakes. It amazes me that after all that’s gone on over the last three years anyone can’t see what pigs ear he’s made of everything. I don't blame him and understand the immense temptations to a young lad, but I can;t condone his behaviour in trying to come across as the wronged party and try and pull the wool over our eyes (I know they all do it). But he had a special thing here and in time as he gets older and the money and the gilrs bore him he will miss his hometown club and he will miss that deep down feeling when he went out onto the pitch to give his all, to run back and help the defence and toil and run himself into the ground in games. He will miss something of himself that will now desert him, that specail contact with an area an its people and their dreams. He will oneday understand what he gave up because 35k a week wasn't enough and I genuinely think he will know he made a mistake.
Brock Manson 0
Andy Carroll 'weeks away from Liverpool debut, Liverpool forward Andy Carroll, who signed from Newcastle on Monday, is unlikely to play for several weeks because of an existing thigh injury. The 22-year-old has been sidelined since the Magpies' 2-0 defeat by Tottenham on 28 December. "He's got a bit of a knock and is probably a few weeks away," said Reds boss Kenny Dalglish. He also admitted that Carroll, who cost £35m, had found it "a wrench" to leave his hometown club. Newcastle had sent Carroll to Dubai in the hope of accelerating his recovery with a warm weather break, and the forward had been due to visit a tendon repair specialist in Sweden. The Gateshead-born attacker, who impressed on his one and only international appearance against France in November, had failed to return to light training as soon as the Tynesiders had hoped. His injury, combined with the departure of Fernando Torres to Chelsea for £50m, is likely to give Liverpool's second deadline-day signing, striker Luis Suarez, the chance to impress his new fans. But Dalglish remained philosophical over the wait for Carroll's debut. "The signing wasn't made to cover a few weeks," added the Scot. "He signed for five and a half years and there's a lot of weeks in that time when he'll be fit and playing for us." Carroll has suggested that he did not want to move, but was told by Newcastle that they would prefer to cash in. Like Carroll, Dalglish left his hometown club to join the Reds in a record-breaking move when he signed from Celtic as a replacement for the Hamburg-bound Kevin Keegan in 1977. He went on to eclipse Keegan in Liverpool's fans affections with 339 goals in 515 appearances and he backed Carroll to overcome any doubts about leaving his native north east. "A very important factor for us is that both players wanted to come here," he said of Suarez and Carroll's signings. "Leaving Newcastle was a wrench for Andy as a local boy, but if he was going to go anywhere there was only one club he'd want to come to," he stated. Dalglish insisted that his purchases would help the club consign the prolific Torres to history. "The football club will appreciate people that have been here and had a go for the club, but it won't dwell on the past," he concluded. "We'll look forward and look upwards hopefully. "There is no one, anywhere in the world, at any stage, who is any bigger or any better than this football club." what a lot of bullshit that line is. as if he wouldn't have gone to man u, chelsea or real madrid ahead of liverpool if they'd been in for him I hadn't thought my sheer contempt for that scottish cunt could have grown any more, but it has. I was angry with him last night, and this morning, but hate him more now than De Jong, Diouf, Sunderland. Speaks about how proud he is to get the No 9 at Liverpool, how the chance to move to Liverpool was too good to turn down. But you said you were forced out and didnt want to leave?? Confused.com. I hope Stevie G has his cock up your missus's arse right now! fucking traitor
