One of those immediately preceding relegation and another immediately following it. The last one thanks to an astronomical fee received, not comensurate with the value of the player. OTF 7794
Wish we'd kept Routledge over Obertan like. Agree. Crazy that we sold Leon Best for more than Sissoko was bought for. Wages won't be comparable obviously.
BigWalrus 0
It'd be interesting if there was some analysis that also included the wages of those players leaving and the wages of the incoming players. I still think, overall, that we'd be showing a net inflow, but it would probably be tight.
Ayatollah Hermione 14234
Apparently Sissoko was only £1.8 million.

Just have to be patient to compare wages when the books come out. As it stood in the last accounts though, wages at the club were about the same as they had been when Ashley took over, having grown and then been reined in by £20m.... Kid Dynamite 7318
£50mil on wages should give you a fairly competitive squad. £70mil is just daft for a club with our income
Happy Face 29
£50mil on wages should give you a fairly competitive squad. £70mil is just daft for a club with our income Back in 2003 wages were about equal to TV money. It grew to more than two and a half times as much as we got from media by 2007. Following relegation it was just shy of 300%. TV money and wages are just about even again now. Happy Face 29
The current window is Ashley's third biggest in terms of gross spend.... 1. Summer 07 - £24.9m (Barton, Smith, Enrique etc) 2. Summer 08 - £21.8 (Colo, Jonas, Xisco, Guthrie) 3. January 13 - £18.3m In terms of net spend though, it's currently number 1.... 1. January 13 - £10.8m 2. Summer 07 - £9.7m 3. January 12 - £8m

Toonpack 10414
It seems high to me too but 40kpw is a pittance in modern footballing terms. If you take it (for the sake of argument) the wages numbers are only for the 25 players. If the bottom end of your squad (say 5 players) are the kids on £5K/week then the next 5 the older "kids/fringe players" are on £15K/week, that means (on £53Mill total for 25) the top 15 of your squad average £61K/week.
