It's been said a hundred times on here like, but the failure to connect the dots on who WAS actually backing Souness with cash is staggering. This is why it's so ridiculous to try and engage in a discussion with him because something as basic as this is just lost in the porridge of his brain.
It was you, you dopey cunt.

I seem to remember Gemma renting out his bedroom cupboards as executive storage to the club. Out of order like.

If a bigger club comes in with a massive offer for one of our players they'll be off. Just like Woodgate.

Ah but we shouldn't sell our best players. Only a shit owner would do that and set us back 20 years.

Ah but Woodgate is different.

Somehow

the difference has been explained, many, many times. I thought you said you were intelligent ?

they backed him, then sacked him when he blew the money. That's football. Operating a sell and replace policy, means you are a selling club.

The backing of Ashley reminds me of the backing of Souness, later people will deny they did it.

And never recovered or looked like doing so any time soon tbf. It was a massive fucking mistake. Strange to write it off like it was a mere trifle.

sacking SBR days into a new season then replacing him with souness then giving souness all the money that SBR should have had to spend in the previous summer was the dumbest move of shepherd's chairmanship and we never recovered from it in his tenure.

we had a real chance of kicking on and establishing the club as genuine top 6 material in the long term. then he replaces one of our most successful managers in living memory and a much loved national treasure with a manager on the verge of the sack at blackburn that no other big club would have gone near. it had disaster written all over it from the start. strange how LM never discusses it when defending the halls AND shepherd.

open your eyes.

Something you may not be aware of actually, as you don't appear to go to many games, and don't mention too much that you disagreed with me with at the time but agree with me now about, but the majority of NUFC supporters at the time, actually agreed that it was time for Sir Bob to "move upstairs".

In any case, Mike Ashley losing Keegan, having got him back, was by far the bigger blunder, when we were only 2 good players short of being a top 6 team again, but it certainly won't be the last time he falls short of ambition. Still, you only moaned on when we had ambitious owners too didn't you ?

Aye, totally different, Woodgate was much better than anyone Ashley's sold.

He's also better than anyone Ashley has bought :icon_lol:

You ought to pose this particular angle towards those who were wanking themselves to death when they backed their manager to replace him with Boumsong and Luque with the money ?

Unless you mean Messi and Ronaldo that is simply not true..

The 'blind backing' of Souness was by Shepherd and the Halls, was it not? That's a rhetorical question btw.

they backed him, then sacked him when he blew the money. That's football. Operating a sell and replace policy, ie selling your best players rather than building on them, means you are a selling club.

The backing of Ashley reminds me of the backing of Souness, later people will deny they did it. They won't be told, even though it is blatantly obviuos.

Not sure what we were under GS. We sold a hell of a lot of our good players. Jenas, Robert, Bellamy etc and replaced them with Boumsong, Owen and Luque.

When GS came in I was horrified, who wouldnt be. But, you have to get behind the manager, at least give him a chance. I think your memory is somewhat tainted to support your argument though LM. I think most people at first got behind him, as you have to. But equally I think most people quickly came to see what he was. I remember him trying to defend his personality saying he had chilled out a lot, just as we watched players want to leave.

But, credit where its due and despite me thinking he dismantled a top side and started our slide that MA took over and couldnt stop, he also had us in a position that is the only time I actually thought me we might win something (Uefa and FA CUp decent runs).

Think I prefer Coloccini.

We sold Woodgate for £13.4m and replaced him with Boumsong for £8m.

How is that different to the Ashley approach, other than the cheaper replacements he's brought in over the last 2 years have been improvements almost across the board.

The quality of the player replacing is much more important than the sums involved like.

That Woodgate / Boumsong thing is a perfect example. That was not like for like. We were well shafted there and the deal stank.
