LeazesMag 0
Tbh i don't really think Ashley's looking at players to improve the team in places we need. He seems to be going for players who have a minimum fee release clause/frees. So I'm expecting more players to come in, and plug gaps that we dont have or players we dont need. Ba - free Marveaux - free Cabaye - £4.3 million release clause N - Taylor £1000000+ release clause (although I realise we never signed him, we went in and we re close to getting him) I really don't think we'd have signed these players if we had to pay a fee or larger fee for them good summing up. In other words, using the club to buy cheap, and sell on. A selling club. Thing is its Ashley's business ethic, just look at how he runs Sports Direct. Buy cheap and flog it on for a profit, why oh why some people here think he will run NUFC any differently from his other business's beats the shit out of me. Thing is he already has done it differently. When he first came in he spunked money on players as well as the next playboy owner . That isn't to say he'll do it that way again necessarily, but your point is contradictory in that NUFC has already been shown to be the very enterprise in which he has departed from his 'normal business ethic'. you know something we don't

sweetleftpeg 0
We were chatting about this at 5-a-side the other night and a couple of people have a theory that the powers that be have put a transfer policy in of £5m max spend on any one player. I think what is pissing me off most about this summer is the constant bullshit wafting itself from Pardew's mouth. I do feel a bit sorry for him as he obviously has no fucking idea who is going in or out, but the whole 'Sturridge is not the type of player we want' bollocks just stunk of a man who probably would want him but he'll be more than £5m so tough titty. Meh.
StoneColdStephenIreland 74
The point i was getting at was although i think Ba is a good signing, and Cabaye probably will be too, I dont think we'd have signed them if they were going for their market value and i think it'll happen again throughout the transfer window again If Ba was going for say around his £7 million price tag that West Ham bought him for would we have signed him? I dont think so If Cabaye was going for around £8 million which is probably his market value without his release clause, would we have signed him? I guess that's OK if they turn out to improve the team; the risk is being stuck with an Alan Smith type for 4 years who'll just sit tight and take the money (was it Winston Bogarde for Chelsea a few years back who wouldn't move on even though he was rotting in the reserves?). The worry is they're cheap for a reason.....

Hmm don't think so bonny lad. In Summer 2007 FCB had a net spend of around £8/9M but has spent fuck all in any transfer window since and his transfer dealings show a net profit of over £40m. How that equates to "spunking money on players" defeats me. Transfer profits are fine as long as they do not weaken the team, well the Fat Cunt has certainly done that this year. Or do you think Demba "Dodgy Knee" Ba is better than Andy Carroll? I notice we have now seemingly pulled out of signing another new striker so FCB obviously thinks he has spent enough this window. So much for the Bullshit from Parsnip and Lambs arse. Amazing that some people actually believe it.

Interestingly (and you'll forgive me for this but I am a stickler for logic), if you use net transfer profit as evidence of him 'pocketing the cash', then a net transfer spend has to be evidence of the opposite approach. Which is basically all I was saying. I'm already well aware you fail to follow logical thought processes in even their most basic expression though, so we'll just leave that one there. ChezGiven 0
Quite simple really, the club's income and costs are only partly affected by transfers. Whether there is a net spend or not is only loosely related to profit and cash in his pocket. In a nutshell. And Ollie, fwiw, I wasn't saying that the premise itself was sound, because it isn't, I was simply pointing out that if (as is typically the case on here) people state that net 'profit' from transfer windows is evidence of him pocketing cash from the club, conversley logic dictates that a net 'spend' is him putting his hands in his own pockets. It isn't that simple for the reasons Chez mentions, but people seem quite happy to view it in those terms (wrongly). The logic applies whether the premise is sound or not however and that's basically what my original post is getting at. I don't think he will return to big spending, but Leazes basically cites anything he sees as supportive of his agenda without knowing the nature or quality of what's being said. Happy Face 29
Talking to people at the keegan talk in last night, I was surprised just how many of them hated ashley for filling his pockets from the club. It totally ignores the facts and displays ignorance of why he's an inept tosser. It's like hating Rupert Murdoch for filling his pockets from MySpace. I got that far, the life drained out of me, and I thought "What are you doing trying to tell him this again, you tit?" because what I say is right, and people can't seperate their personality hatred from common sense, because that is all it is. Why don't you have a go at mancmag for posting nothing other than a daft jibe aimed at me ? Isn't that also sad, or is it different ? Never ceases to amaze me how some people on here proclaim their superior intelligence, then make childish and irrelevant comments like 8 year olds. Why don't they use this supposed superior intelligence to show us mere mortals how we are wrong, using the facts and put up the proof. It's no good saying Mike Ashley is doing well, because he isn't, you know that, he is dragging the club downwards but these self proclaimed geniuses, rather than say it when I [and you] say it, change their agendas and their angle of "debate" according to whoever they reply to. How much of the Carroll money have we seen so far ? This is the topic of the thread.
