Ashley's Transfer History thread

It's difficult to argue with much in that article.

Aye, decent piece. And coming from another local rag it contrasts sharply with Ryder's output. In being both a cogent bit of writing and managing to give credit where it's due without coming across as a lickspittle (or cock sucker).

Very patronising to effectively be told who we should and shouldn't respect tbh. Assumes it's readership is 5 years old and for that reason alone it can get to fuck.

Nose to the grindstone and shut the fuck up basically.

I didn't like it when Normski did it and I don't like it now.

us football fans are by nature a fickle lot. basically it all comes down to success on the pitch.

the owner actively looked like he didn't give a shit and the fans turned. he's done nowt to try and win us back on side - in fact sometimes he seems to go out of his way to wind the support up (closing the signign section, renaming the stadium, selling key players etc etc).

but if he manages to stumble on a formula that delivers success then you'd have to give him credit, whatever you think of him. it's hard not to be sceptical in the meantime though. I'm pretty sure the recent turnaound in fortune has a lot to do with luck rather than any grand designs on ashley's part.

time will tell but i've got to agree about that piece. beats the chronicle writing about his weight loss, that's for sure.

only a 5 year old can seriously believe that selling your best players and pocketing the cash is the way to build a successful football club.

Only a 5 year old would think that's what NUFC are doing.

"synonymous with marquee signings on sky-high wages, bought for vastly-inflated fees"

I tried arguing against this in another thread by looking at ALL of our most expensive signings, but it's basically bollocks innit?

Owen and Luque have made us synonymous?

Shearer, Tino, Ferdinand, Peacock, Albert, Barton (W), Batty, Fox, Speed, Robert, Martins, Cole, Woodgate count or nowt in our pile of "Big" signings that were good business.

Fucking hell, bastid twighlight zone at times this.

On selling best players - if taking one step back means we can take two steps forward Ill buy into it. If we take a step back and do fuck all I wont. At the moment (and Im living in the moment not 10 years ago or next fucking week) we are doing the former so I'll keep shtum and enjoy it.

Apart from its soul.

Football has no soul. Ridiculous amounts of TV money saw to that, in concert with a Mr Bosmann and the advantage/opportunity he created for agents along with the odd oligarch/sheik here and there.
