Happy Face 29
Forgetting £££ for a second, what squad would you swap for the current one? [/Ashleyapologist] How does the squad of players that Ashley took over compare to those that are here now? The consensus was that even before the addition made in this window, the squad was better than 10/11....which produced Ashley's best finish yet. http://www.toontastic.net/board/topic/31301-did-we-have-a-better-playing-staff-at-the-start-of-the-season/page__fromsearch__1
Kid Dynamite 7034
I said this to my dad last night, despite having good players like Shearer, Bellamy, Woodgate and Robert in the team over the years, our current starting XI is the best I can remember since 1995 ish. Kid Dynamite 7034
That would be Robsons team with a back 4 of Griffin, Hughes, Dabizas and O'Brien? And the awesome Jenas and Viana in midfield?
Dr Gloom 21965
That would be Robsons team with a back 4 of Griffin, Hughes, Dabizas and O'Brien? And the awesome Jenas and Viana in midfield? yup, the very same team that chalked up three top 5 finishes and progressed to the second stage of the champions league with shearer and bellamy up front and speed, solano and robert in midfield. this side is looking promising but it's only promise at the moment. it hasn't achieved anything yet. that's not saying it won't go on to do better than robson's side but at the moment that isn't the case. and before we get too excited, there's still every chance fatty sells some key players before the month's out. i agree though, the foundations are there. it's the first time i've been excited by the potential of the side for some time. ChezGiven 0
"Cabaye and Tiote is possibly the best central midfield we've had in 10-15 years" Another one that was laughed at 4 months ago. I agree J, particularly around the centre of that midfield, the wings and forward line were fantastic though.
Kid Dynamite 7034
We are 6th at the minute playing with one decent striker. There are a couple of players you would swap in to the current team but as a whole I would rather have our current starting XI Krul -- Given Santon -- Hughes Coloccini -- Dabizas Taylor -- Obrien Simspon -- Griffin Jonas -- Robert Ben Arfa -- Dyer Tiote -- Viana Cabaye -- Jenas Cisse -- Shearer Ba -- Bellamy Edited January 19, 2012 by J69
McFaul 35
Nee competition between Robson's team and wors, and I disagree with people saying the midfield was better. People saying we come 3rd, the competition was shite, Liverpool were shite, Chelsea weren't that good. Stoke nuw would come top 4 in 2003.

Kid Dynamite 7034
Woodgate played 28 games for us so thats a bit of a cheat. Solano was also dropped and sold by Robson so same goes for him.

The only ones of the people highlighted who would definitely DESERVE to be in the team I've highlighted. Dyer was excellent when he had a run of 15 games which was hardly EVER, Woodgate see Dyer plus he only came in mid way through 02/03. Shearer and Bellamy, Demba and Cisse, I'd rather have Demba and Cisse. Speed over Tiote?? Nee chance.
