Small time club.

I'm trying to look at this as logically as possible and £35 million is too good of an offer to turn down. I don't think it shows us to be a small time/selling club. Man United had to flog Ronaldo, Spurs got rid of Berbatov etc. These deals just happen sometimes. I don't think it'll have a huge impact on the players, this stuff happens at every club. Unfortunately we have once again shown a huge lack of foresight to allow it to happen this close to the end of the window. We couldn't reinvest even if we wanted to (and I'm not sure of that either).

Typically of Ashley this deal makes a lot of sense from a financial/business POV but little or none from a footballing perspective.

I really don't think that's true. A local player always has that extra something which fans can identify with. None of your examples were home grown. Not only that but it spells out to everyone else that you're a selling club. A club that are a stepping stone to somewhere else.

It'll cost a lot more than £35m in the long run IMO.

Liverpool were below us for most of this season.

Let's take a bet on where we are compared to them a) next year  in five years time.

I don't think you'd fancy your chances on betting we'll be above them...
