Money talks and Ashley and Liverpool have proved that today. Todays football is not about loyalty anymore, its about money, its about who has got the biggest house and the nicest car and lasses. Footballers are not footballers anymore, they are celebs. At the end of the day I can understand why people are complaining, we have lost our best player and have no replacement coming in, but look on the bright side, would we have ever got that much for any other player? He is an unproven young lad, 91 games under his belt if am not mistaken. £35m I doubt anyone would turn an offer like that down. The clubs fault in all ways, if they kept to their word, which these cunts in charge here dont, Carroll would have been a Newcastle United player to atleast the end of the season. If a club comes out and says repeatedly, the player is not for sale, then they decide to accept an offer for him they are indicating to the player that he is unwanted at the club and the money is much more preferred. Indeed. But it doesn't remove the player's power to veto the move. If they'd accepted the bid from the likes of an oil-rich Quatar based club then would he still have been forced to go? Sounds like he flounced to me. A stupid and short-sighted decision. In years to come I hope he regrets the fact that he has now, in all likelihood, played his last game for NUFC. The wages that Carroll was on here were still astronomical compared to most normal people; comparatively speaking, the three you mentioned weren't on anything like that sort of money. Mike Ashley wanted him to go; Pardew didnt, the fans didnt, the players didnt. Why not honour the contract? I just hope the truth comes out. Pardew didnt have a say in it! We sold Gazza for £2m. They all left for clubs who had more ambition. They were all already earning more money than most people could dream of, but not as much as they would earn elsewhere. Seems pretty much the same to me, and speaking as somebody who is old enough to have been there it feels pretty much exactly the same as well. I got a text earlier from someone who has lived through this before who said the wheel has now turned full circle. To be honest Bawan I believed all this shite about how ''it's a dream'' every time he pulls on the famous number 9 and how he wants to spend his career here. Making me one naive moron. Aye but he's a professional footballer driven by success and money in a short career span. Lets be brutally honest I don't think we're likely to be challenging for the league during Carroll's playing career and here's an opportunity for him to move, what he believes, is upwards and likely tripling his salary. Economically it's a no-brainer for him - the kid will never have to worry about cash again and that will always win the day over sentiment in a footballer's eye. Will Carroll have absolutely no regrets about moving away from his home town club? I very much doubt it. he certainly won't. A lot of posters on here have moved away from the area to get on with their life and thats just the way it goes in life, he's no different. He has looked at the move, concluded NUFC is a club going nowhere, and taken the jump for career and financial purposes, and nobody else on here would not have done exactly the same thing. A sad day, we have conceded ourselves as inferior to a club like Liverpool again, it only remains to be seen how many of the current team wonder what sort of club they are playing for and how they thought they signed for a progressive club and it turns out they have not. We rejected the £35m offer but then Carroll said he wanted to go so we took it. Once he had listened to Liverpool and his head was turned, we had to take the insane price on the table. It's the simplest explanation. Any other version has to have us pretending to reject the £35m offer whilst persuading Carroll to put in a transfer request so they could publicly accept the offer.
