LeazesMag 0
2 things - firstly, this shows how much of Carroll's heart is in NUFC if he's willing to fuck off to Liverpool so quickly despite the club sticking by him through several off field incidents already. Secondly, it shows that the club's directors do not understand the club and the mentality of its fans. I was arguing against the old stereotype the other week of us feeling that we deserve to be one of the big boys/challenging for honours etc. I don't think anyone feels that we DESERVE anything, but that with our fanbase and history we SHOULD be, or at the very least, having challenged for the title and competed in the champion's league in the not too distant past, we WANT to be up there. And we're never going to get there if we're going to sell our bright young stars to the clubs already there (Liverpool, for all their turmoil this season, are undeniably one of the great big teams). To see our club cash in on our homegrown number 9 just makes me sick to the stomach quite honestly. get used to it.

Monroe Transfer 0
I really don't want to direct my displeasure at Carroll as I simply don't fully believe that there were no outside influences on him handing in a transfer request. Either way it makes to me feel utterly sick to recall how Hughton handed him the no.9 responsibility at the start of the season. Half a season later he supposedly wants out. Of course they're a bigger and better club but in your first full Premier League season you'd have thought he'd have stuck around till at least the Summer once we'd guaranteed safety. He's 22 and would have had plenty more opportunities to move on. He's an NUFC fan, he's from the area, we're not doing badly and we didn't have to sell. Monroe Transfer 0
Can't believe this is actually happening. If we actually get a replacement in I'll be stunned. The Ashley era hits a new low. How many times have we had to say that? Exactly. Every positive period is a false dawn.
LeazesMag 0
They've made enquiries and we've told them no. Im sure we'll do the same again. We'll see. We'd be rejecting offers now anyway, whether we intend on keeping him or not. The time to get smug about rejected offers is 1st Feb, cos then we'll know that we weren't just holding out for a bigger offer on the last day of the window. Is that the same time the humble pie gets eaten......I doubt it. Humble pie about what? Nobody wants him sold, but people are rightly concerned. Why do you have to try and lord it over people and insist they eat humble pie? When I say that the time to be smug is on Feb 1, that's not strictly true. What I should say is that while the rest of us choose to be relieved that we kept our best player, knowing what you're like, you won't be able to stop crowing about how you predicted it all and acting the smug prick. And a better time for THAT would be Feb 1st. Although tbh there's never a good time for that sort of shit. So Im smug for being pleased we've YET AGAIN, turned down an offer, but others in this thread who claim the deals being done all along shouldnt eat humble pie on 1st Feb.. What utter fucking TOSH. ASM is right, come 1st Feb, the usual nay sayers will be spouting about how the clubs just waiting til the summer to get more money.....and so it goes on. TIT CT, you're a fuckin pleb man, not so much as Skidders like, but you are talking about selling Carroll in January/August etc, you are talking about WHEN Carroll will be sold. Mate, nothing is as sure as this club will, eventually, lose Carroll and Enrique to one of the top clubs attempting to win the trophies and play in europe, and they will be happy to leave when the penny drops when they realise they have to make this move for their career ambitions. Do you want to know what will help convince them to stay, and build on this "platform he has started" ? Its quite simple man, all Mike Ashley has to do is buy a couple of quality players like Carroll and Enrique to show them that THIS club is trying to go places, this will also correctly bring about a u-turn in attitudes among supporters of the club towards him and his ambitions for the club. It's THAT simple man. Tiote? Ben Arfa? exactly and not too expensive either. so do you think it is possible to put together a team to consistently play in europe and/or the Champions League rummaging around the basement transfer market ? I wouldnt say Tiote nor Barfa were basement bargains...far from it. Clever business. You can assemble a quality squad without spending alot of money if you have a quality scouting network in place and then know how to manage them. That isn't what I asked. And Tiote and Ben Arfa were relatively cheapish buys in todays market. Exactly. Ben Arfa was nearing the end of his contract [heading into his final 12 months], and his disciplinary issues with OM probably devalued his true market value at the time when he effectively talked himself out other feasible options [permanent transfers] were avilable, when Ashley was lurking in the background with a loan offer [minus a concrete 'to buy' figure set in the loan contract] which amounted to Venus Fly Trap [with all the bargaining power in Ashley's court] in waiting. And Tiote is one of those 'chancer' & inexpensive type of signings, a player in development whose attributes [physical attributes & his reading of the play] have made for an immediate impact in the physical & fast paced nature of the top flight. The most comparible signing in the premiership era would be Viera: a peripheral figure at his former club [Milan], but like Tiote made added steel to Wenger's overall football philosophy re. their outfield play, and hence a pivotal signing. Credit goes to the scouting department in this case, but they don't always come off ie. Guppy & Huckerby under KK. It's still an extremely hit & miss transfer policy, to rely on 'chancer' signings. Tiote & Ben Arfa are gifts. We've been the beneficiaries of a combination of good scouting and a volatile/ugly 'player vs club & manager' situation. Players of this ability don't consistently drop into your lap, for next to peanuts in today's market at a highly consistent rate. Even Arsenal/Wenger hunt down & ultimately are prepared to fork out the going rate for those youngsters deemed to be in the top echelon of the talent pool, this why talk of Ashley trying to emulate 'the Arsenal Model' is offensive. But the sort of signings we should be aiming for, you have be prepared to go that extra yard. Instead trolling around for mid-late 20's players in the lower leagues a kid like Delph [identified by KK], under a lengthy contract at Leeds, was exactly the type of emerging & dominating talent we should be trying to sign from the lower divisions. The prospect of a shaft type of move [where a compensation via tribunal ruling was out of the question] wasn't a feasible option. Instead Ashley/Dekka tabled an offer which brought about a reportedly colorful response from Bates. Under the previous regime such signings [ie Jenas] were completed with the upmost of professionalism............ or in the case of Delph [as KK suggested] did Ashley & Dekka purposely underbid for a player in their attempts to push the manager to the periphery of the squad's building plans. Either way it's embarrasing running of the club. common sense which still escapes some people, it would appear. Todays news is gutting and absolutely no surprise at all, tbh
Tooj 17
Well, if you can't expect loyalty from a local lad who we have stuck by threw several altercations with the law, then who can you expect loyalty from? Absolutely disgusting behaviour from Carroll to put a transfer request in this late on in the window - especially as it appears he's strung us along with his "wanting to stay" speeches this January. I hope he is a massive failure at Liverpool and his career nose dives from here. I may sound bitter, but to be honest with you, I am. Tooj 17
The Geordie hit-man has come almost from nowhere to be the most-talked-about striker in the Premier League. A magnet for trouble off the pitch, Carroll has been causing havoc on it with eight goals already to his credit. And the man who announced his arrival on the big stage with a hat-trick against Villa in Newcastle’s second match of the season, says there’s plenty more to come. Carroll said: “Everything is going well. We were promoted, I got the No.9 shirt, I’ve been scoring goals, and I’ve made my England debut – it’s exactly what I was dreaming about 18 months ago. “I asked for the No.9 shirt to be honest. I knew no one had it so I knocked on the manager’s door and asked for it. He took a few days to get back to me. When I was growing up Alan Shearer was wearing it. I grew up wanting to have it and now I have it. “Shearer was an absolute legend and hopefully in time I can be the same. “I was a ball-boy at Newcastle for about three years and it was great to be close to Shearer. “Duncan Ferguson was also playing then but it was really Shearer I looked to because of the goals he scored and how he played. “Shearer was great when he was in charge here too. He showed me how to beat defenders in the air and how to hold the ball up. He gave me a lot of encouragement to try things. “I had five games under him and I was disappointed that he didn’t stay on. But now everything is going so well under Chris Hughton.” PEOPLE SPORT revealed three weeks ago that Chelsea had earmarked Carroll as Didier Drogba’s eventual replacement but the sensation of the season says he’s going nowhere. In fact he wants to stay on Tyneside for life. “This is Newcastle, this is where I want to be,” he said. “If a five-year deal is put on a plate for me then I am going to take it because this is where I want to play my football and live for the rest of my life. “I have to keep working hard to get a game and scoring goals is just giving a little back for the chance I have been given. “It does feel good when you hear that the club are not prepared to sell you at any price. Giving me a five-year deal means they want me here for as long as they can. “It means a lot knowing that the club are behind me. It is a good feeling. “Obviously it is good to hear that people are talking about you but, like I said, the five-year deal I have signed is serious. I would not have signed it if I had wanted to move.” Carroll, who goes up against Chelsea at St James’ Park this afternoon as the leading English scorer in the Premier League, is determined to clean up his off-the-field image. He says: “There’s been a bit of bother lately but it’s in the past now. I know people are watching every move I make so I need to keep my head down. I have to deal with criticism and get on with it but Chris Hughton has been sticking by me. “He pulls me in the office now and again and lets me know what he likes and what he doesn’t like. He is helping me along with life.” Carroll was England’s only plus in the defeat by France at Wembley. But the praise he received for his debut performance was laced with disappointment because he did not have the chance to play alongside Rooney. “Wayne is a great player so to have people talking about me and him playing up front for England means a lot,” he said. “I definitely think we could form a decent partnership. The way we both play I reckon we’d go well together.” And he added: “I knew I was capable of playing for England. In my head I wanted to step up and I knew I could do it. Now I’ve played one game, I have to try and keep my place in the squad. “Turning up at the England hotel was good. The rest of the lads were there and I just walked in all normal, like – as if I should be there. We had a bit of banter and that was that.” Nice one you tosser. To be fair, he's the most expensive player in Britain. Should be on the same wages as Terry.....not Steven Taylor. If we didn't try to offer a wage increase any talk of reluctance is slightly hollow. If you come out with the shit about wanting to stay for life and loving the club, stick to it, or shut your mouth. You cant in any way force a player out if they dont want to go, they just dont go. Only a manager has a chance by saying they wont play you ever again, and that hasnt happened. What do people actually think ashley and llambias can do to make him do it, seriously? beat him up, threaten his family!...he's got a long contract, at the club he "loves" its his choice to leave not theirs. Players have all the power, if they want to go, they act up and clubs reluctantly sell, if they want to stay and dick about picking up big wages, you cant shift them or pay off their contract. This doesnt for a moment mean i believe everything that comes out the club, i havent since the keegan episode and wont ever believe much of what they say unless its backed up by cast iron proof, but saying Carroll was forced into it is nonsense. We could have easily got another two years out of him and still raked in £35m.... possibly a lot more if the player progressed as many expect. FMA has gambled on Carroll not getting any better as a player. Edited January 31, 2011 by Your Name Here
