Birmingham City have completed the signing of former Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins.

Martins is currently with Russian club Rubin Kazan, who have revealed that they have loaned him to Blues until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old Nigeria international moved to Russia last summer from Wolfsburg for a reported fee of €17million, but he has not settled and Kazan have now sanctioned his returned to England.

Martins, who began his career with Inter Milan, moved to Newcastle in 2006 and spent three years at St James' Park before a switch to Wolfsburg in 2009.

"He has just had a child and he asked to be let go to England, as he wants to go closer to his family," Rubin coach Kurban Berdyev confirmed.

Rubin stated on their website that Martins had gone on loan for six months.

It is reported that Martins shunned a move to West Bromwich Albion to join Birmingham

Guest You FCB Get Out Of Our Club

Fuck me I never seen that coming. I know he's hated on here, but I still liked Oba he's better than all bar Carroll put it that way.

How do you think he will do, know he was a bit hit and miss here but on his day was good just didn't have enough of them. Cost Kazan 17 million euro too

same as here, hit and miss, he'll score some spectacular goals, disappear a few games, miss some easy chances, but he will occupy the opposing defenders and force them to play with one eye on his pace. Always thought he wasn't good enough for us, but he would walk into the current team with his eyes closed [which he does a lot  ]

That was my big gripe with the useless cunt, for someone apparantly so quick, he never used it. He scored more headers and long range screamers than he ever scored from playing off the shoulder of the last man. I don't know if it was ever tried to be coached into him, or if he was just too numbskulled to learn.

spectacular goals are all well and good, but the best strikers are the ones who score their goals close in, in different ways, from rebounds, tap ins, when they see the whites of the keepers eyes staring at them and are about to be clobbered by a big centre back.

Martins has his strengths, but his weaknesses are too profound to be a top striker, as you say. For me, he just disappeared too often.

Not really someone you want to be coming up against for fearing that he'll put out one of his speculators.

He is the guy however that you want taking one on one chances for the opposition as he's bound to miss it or slam it straight at Harper.

Interesting signing.

Dislike the bloke immensely and don't rate him at all. He'll still score against us.

If he isn't out injured.

Aye, he spent a lot of time out "injured" at our place. Around the time Kinnear arrived and he stopped turning up for training funnily enough.

He rarely gets into one on one situations anyway. It's indicative of his lack of a footballing brain that a striker with his pace struggles to get behind the defence and will be best remembered for rockets from 30 yards.

I heard he had trouble sleeping, was apparently out late at night with insomnia...

co-incidence the longest run of games both Viduka and Owen played was when Keegan was manager ? Also the most consistent performances from Martins was when Keegan was manager ?

Not really. They're three mercenary players who disappear when the going gets tough.

Heard the exact same thing from a good source like. One of the reasons I can't stand him. He was crocked a fair bit too prior to that though.
