Some good memories here

 

The merger was never going to work. HTT had his idea of how things were going to go and basically didn't care what anyone else thought. Even though he's gone after he went mental and posted Pud's details (ah, Hitzfeldgate ) some of his ideas, like the ridiculous moderating and having one thread and one thread only for topics, still remain. I can remember getting a message from Ritchie saying that everyone was buggering off. It upset HTT quite a bit if I remember correctly.

 

That said N-O is decent for news as there is always some unemployable mouthbreather sitting on the board with Sky Sports News on in the background. If something breaks you'll find out about it there but don't hang around to listen to anyone's opinions. The vast majority of posters are morons. While we may not be as quick on the uptake over here the craic is better and you don't have to argue the toss with a 14 year old New Zealander who thinks the Robledo Brothers were a 70s latino pop band. I still prefer Skunkers to both this site and N-O. I prefer the banter over there but I wouldn't really class it as a football message board.

I never go on the NO football forum, but their General Chat is actually canny good on the odd time I do dip in. I think the stereotype about that place being all young kids is bollocks these days, certainly on the general chat side.

 

Having said that, the craic about Keegan (which seemed to be a majority), and the claims that "Ashley is laying the foundations for future success" makes the football forum unreadable for me. Reading both of those opinions offered up by some ringpiece from Singapore was canny ridiculous - you can either get involved in a pointless argument with some poindexter bellsniff who isn't gonna change his mind, or you can just stop going on there. And the former is basically pointless and frustrating.

 

And I know if one of the little pricks with their overrated opinions read this, they'd be giving it the "OMG toontastic say my opinion means less cos I'm from overseas!!11" shtick. When you live 5,000 miles away, you have no concept of the feeling in the city, and you're completely detached from the place, then yes on some matters your opinion is utterly worthless. Which makes the arrogant way they pontificate on the issue of Ashley or Keegan all the more ridiculous. I wouldn't go on an American football team's forum at a time of crisis and tell the fans the craic about how their team was being run. It's incredibly arrogant.

God this has been a trip down memory lane! I think I was a member of the very old Toontastic then Toonchat. I used HTT too, which I quite liked.

Stevie made a good point about early Toontastic feeling abit 'clicky' as alot of members knew each other and I for one just didnt feel part of it. Its far better in that respect now but I think I will always feel sort of like I'm outside looking in.

I havent been on NO for absolutely ages, I must have a look. I think Im a member, though maybe under my old name of Looneytoon which I used to use many years back on a Freeserve footballchat forum ( I have people from there on my FB who still remember me first as Looney ) Oh the memories. We all met in Newcastle one year, went to a match and out on the town that evening, great days. And the main group of us from back then remain friends to this day which I think is remarkable as we all live all over the country.

Is Skunkers still going? I used to post on there but you get so much grief for being a woman Couple good lads on there though I remember.

You're the oldest toon chatter I can remember Toonraider, from about 2002. I remember you on Talk Of The Tyne, I used to post as stevieintoon on there, but they were all clueless mugs about football, and I used to tell them on a daily basis.

Aye. I was a bit mouthy in them days to be honest, but still I made good points about the clueless tools purporting to be toon fans. They used it as a chat thing more than a football thing, there was one kid "Woods1" looked like something out of Bill and Ted, he used to meet people in the Companions Club, never saw him talk about football once.

Yeah I preesume so, most of us signed up in July 05. I was invited but cant for the life of me remember who by!

 

If you go back 320 pages its July 05 and there's a thread about you. I think the very earliest are missing though. I was invited here that month by one of the admin, might have been Shearergol I think, and I defected. I wasn't really welcomed though (it was before I joined 'the clique') as I was a right contrary twat in those days - far worse than I am now.

I read the thread titled, 'So who are we missing then' It gave me my answer! I was invited by ScottishMag and this forum did turn out to be the last toon one I ever joined.

It should be the best football board for NUFC going tbh, because the lads I know are older and have followed the club longer, but they just choose to make skunkers full of the crap that it does.
