Sonatine 11298
KEYS RESIGNS SKY ROLEPosted 26/01/11 19:31 EmailPrintSave Richard Keys has resigned from his role as football anchorman for Sky Sports in the wake of last weekend's sexism row. Keys had already apologised for his remarks about female assistant referee Sian Massey, and added to those regrets in a statement made after resigning. Fellow presenter Andy Gray was fired on Tuesday as part of the scandal and Keys gave that decision as part of his reason for going. "I am deeply sorry for my remarks and the offence they have caused; it was wrong and should not have happened," Keys said in a statement. "I have thought long and hard and reached the decision that it is time to move on. Going forward without Andy would have been almost impossible. "I am and will remain proud of our work with football at Sky Sports and grateful to the many people who have worked with me. I wish Sky Sports continued success in the future." Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, said: "It is disappointing that Richard's career at Sky should end in these circumstances. "However, Richard recognises that his comments at the weekend were unacceptable and we note that he has made a full and public apology. We thank him for his time in helping make Sky Sports the success it is today."

Jimbo 172
Just heard the Richard Keys interview, in my opinion it's not as bad as it was painted as on Twitter etc given the context of the questioning, I just question the timing, surely prior to his sacking or resignation he should have made a simple statement of apology nothing more, to field questions on the subject and give opinion on the agenda or witch-hunt that may or may not have lead to this disclosure its very very questionable and very foolish, by all means vent this after the dust has settled but now was not the time. ackas 311
End of an era. Can't say I'm sad though. The leaker has got what he wanted, unfairly one might say. Unfair? Andy Gray is suing the News of the World over the phone hacking allegations. The same NotW, who errr, just happen to be owned by the same people that own Sky. Nice one Andy. You might want to forget that before someone at your current employer digs out some tapes of you making some slightly unguarded sexist comments and you find yourself without a job. "I'd like to finish my career at molineux...... " , Oh the irony. Heard a few rumours they would both treat the people behind the scenes like dirt which would tie in with the perception they love themselves. If this is true you'd wonder if someone behind the scenes had a few bits of footage lined up as payback should the chance arise.
Guest You FCB Get Out Of Our Club
They're often on "Take it like a fan" with Fenners and Charlotte and they always come across as mugs. It will be interesting to see if they get another job in football presenting. ESPN are owned by SKY iirc, so that would be a non starter.

Multi millionaires both of them, they won't care about money. Their prime concern will be restoring their credibility. Big Ron still hasn't managed it 7 years on. Aye, and while I had some sympathy with what Keys was saying in his interview (about having been there since the 'start' when Sky was the minor player), it was only sympathy in the sentimental sense. Like shite was he the 'pioneer' that he was trying to make out, with people 'drinking at his well'. It was always someone elses format and it was always someone elses money was at risk. You're a presenter you daft hairy bastard, if you weren't doing it someone else would be and rest assured someone else soon will be. You've picked up a decent wedge as presenter and thats your compensation, never mind all this 'pioneering' bullshit, you were there for a salary.
