Whacked some dowels in the holes, and screwed it back on… ffs

He also organised a Leo Sayer in Edinburgh a few years ago when GNER cancelled all the trains going up there because of a similar storm. If he found a time machine he'd definitely fancy a lads piss up in Pompeii circa 79AD. SOS sent out for reinforcements to help put the gazebo up so I'll be popping around while it's still light. I swear he does this on purpose. (Apologies to @Stotty for quoting myself).

Howmanheyman 35441
Well just back, it's up, hard work and that was with three of us doing it but it's screwed into his decking and pretty secure, if we'd been around 100 years ago we'd have been a certainty to make Shackleton's Antarctic expedition, the way we got that up was reminiscent of them putting their tents up in the howling wind after abandoning endurance when it was stuck in the pck ice. Walker lads don't mess about.

Gemmill 48567 Posted Friday at 14:20 Share Posted Friday at 14:20 Whoa. Related to the storm, or it's just old and needs replaced?
ewerk 32349 Posted Friday at 14:24 Share Posted Friday at 14:24 Once the roofer got up there he saw loads of cracked and displaced tiles that have been there for a while. Reckons you can’t get these tiles any more, which I’m not so sure about.
Gemmill 48567 Posted Friday at 14:28 Share Posted Friday at 14:28 Aye, Irish tradesmen eh. There's one turns up here every couple of months with the most mental fucking accent wanting to knock all the moss of the roof tiles. I haven't taken him up on it yet.

Aye Ewerk, if he sets up a chute straight in to the skip for the old tiles, he’s relatively legit. If he piles them up and has his skivvy carry them off the roof, he’s taking them away to resell them at a premium.

ewerk 32349 Posted Friday at 19:16 Share Posted Friday at 19:16 Thanks but the fuck am I getting up on the roof myself. They’re a brand called Western, made by a local company who are still producing tiles. I have some spare left by the previous owner so going to take one and see if I can get a match. He took photos and there are loads damaged and misplaced but if I can get replacements then I don’t think the whole thing needs changing.

Tiles in general last about 100 years (as long as the sub structure is solid). If they have been taken out of production for whatever reason there is very likely to be a replica on the market. Like traditional clay tiles? Depends on loads of stuff, they can easily last a lot longer. If you have a roofer you trust just ask them to have a look for you, it’s easier to know it might need doing in a couple of years than having it fail unexpectedly. Our house was built in 1901, and it needed a whole new roof when we bought it 4 years ago.
