It balances out over the year as the heating doesn't go on for 6 months during the summer but spends most of the winter on 20c. I just rang up with my meter readings and got told im in £2 credit, which is fine as even though I may be in debit by April I will be back in a fair bit of credit by November to cover the winter period. However I just got a letter in the post saying they want to change my monthly payments to £95pm Can I refuse to do this or is it ultimately up to them? Not sure tbh but I would think you can ask them to justify the rise in relation to actual meter readings etc. Sounds like they're trying it on to me. Coming out of winter if you're on a DD monthly payments are bound to go up a whack. Money Saving Expert have a good guide to changing and say now is the time to do it...don't just "go compare" because some comparison sites give you cash back (like £30 for a dual fuel change). Jill 0 Posted January 20, 2011 Share Posted January 20, 2011 That reminds me actually, we were paying £85 per month as we had quite a lot to pay off due to problems with the meter (it ended up getting replaced), we're now in credit I think so need to see about getting the payments reduced. The bloke on the phone told me that leccy is going up 10% and gas 3% so there will be a rise, however my rise seems too steep so there must have been a ''mistake''. Couple of years back they said we had a credit of £something (can't remember but it was a lot) and they could pay it into our account. A month later we get a phone call saying they shouldn't have done that and tried to hike our payments up accordingly. We got onto them and gave them short shrift and they put it back to what it originally was. BT did the same a while ago anarl. Robbing twats.
