The problem with that place is they all think that their opinion on the same subject deserves a new thread. Abysmal mess of a forum, we should lend them Tom for a week.

we should lend them you, because like you, they are all fans of Mike Ashley

They're going to sell a player that wants to leave. Are they now a selling club, like we were when the Zog and Given wanted out? ;)

I'm genuinely shocked by the fee mentioned. He's worth maybe half of that. These inflated transfer fees take the piss, especially for English players.

He's English and his stats speak for themselves. His true worth might be inflated a bit but certainly not to the extent you're making out.

He's also at the peak age for a striker (27 in a few weeks).

I don't think it's that hard to score goals in the PL at the moment, defences are of a poor quality. I'm just thinking in comparison to other transfer fees, Stevie mentioned Tevez went for 24 mill to citeh, he's twice the player Bent is, at least. I don't think it's good for the game when a player like Milner costs upwards of £25 million.

His being English is part of why his price is inflated though. Players seem to peak earlier these days as well. Not suggesting he's finished or owt and I'd love to see him alongside Carroll but I think the days are gone when you can assume 26-29 are the best days in a player's career. I think he's pretty limited as well.

probably.

Edit. They always were, hence the shit last 40 years or so they have had. Lately though, it seemed they had changed for the better, hence their improved performance. Maybe not though, we will see.

Thing is, they can't be surprised by this. Bent has been living and socialising 99% of the time in Newcastle anyway. I think the only time he ever sets foot in s*nderland is for home games. It was on the cards to be honest.

Doesn't make it any less funnier though.

Unless they have something special lined up, it seems a stupid move given their current league position and possible european challenge.

Thing is like, they're not going to get into the CL and the Uefa Cup is barely worth the bother.

I appreciate there are mixed feelings over this with fans, but for Steve Bruce to be able to "deliver" european football would be seen as a great achievement for him.

I quite agree in terms of league position but I'd bet any money they'd' be fielding weakened sides in front of about 20k fans were they to qualify for it.

the premium you pay for an english player is madness. £24m for bent ffs? he's worth no more thsn £10-15m tops if you ask me.

Aye but he guarantees goals in this league. It must be pretty embarrassing for the unwashed though to leave for wanky average club like Villa who have a chance to go down.

Villa are a more fashionable club They're not in a great position at the moment but with that said the league is so tight that I wouldn't judge certain clubs too much.

Plus he can actually spend some time in Birmingham city centre without feeling embarrassed.

Villa are about as fashionable as turnup jeans imo. Sunderland, Villa, Everton three clubs who are about as sexy as Jodie Marsh.

There is a few possible reasons for this

1. Bent wants a move back down south [yep I know it isn't London.....but its south] for personal reasons

2. Bent wants a move for career reasons [unlikely looking at league positions and a struggling Villa team]

3. The mackems want to take the offer while they can as its a good offer, and they have recently been asking for more supporters to come to games and help them move "to the next level". BTW, their crowds compare favourably to most other top clubs and isn't that much behind the "great" Liverpool......

4. Bruce has looked at his strikers and thinks Bent and Gyuan are similar [they looked similar yesterday to me, they were both playing off the last defender and looking for the ball behind], and therefore thinks Gyuan is the better of the 2 [which he might be but its a risk as Bent is a proven good premiership striker and has scored about half their goals]

5. In the event of 4, he has a replacement lined up, either for monetary or footballing reasons.

I'm surprised, I have to be honest.
