Mr Gittes 0
If we really finished 7th this season, Ashley would expect Pardew to guide us into the CL in 2012 on a shoestring ..... 28 pts is sth to build on in early 2011 - get to the 40 as soon as possible and set a higher target then. Mac-Toon 1
You're right, Leazes, we won't. Nevertheless, your relentless insistence that we should be spending 150 million RIGHT NOW and bugger the possible consequences of bankruptcy do grate. link ? Or shut up. FWIW, the accountant of this board, who he says specialises in dealing with "unsustainable business spending" encouraged such spending previously by the club, not me. The spastic of this board talking fucking nonsense again. I just come into threads I've never posted in to find you obsessing about me, you weirdo. haha, you fucking backed Souness' spending "to build his team" right to the end, you incompetent prick. If you were my accountant, I'd sack you. I've not seen what was said or anything what with being new here and don't want to get involved in the turf war but surely when Sounness was our manager, which meant the board felt he was the man for the job, then he should've been backed to the hilt regardless. It's not about who's in charge, any manager who is in charge of a club, at that time, is the boards man so they should be backed until a time they are let go. Is that not what Gemmill was getting at? In a footballing sense, you back your man that you appoint as best you can until it is obvious he is not doing the job successfully anymore or is showing himself to be the wrong man, yes I agree completely. Unfortunately, Souness showed he was the wrong man long before the end and should suitably have been sacked long before he was. I just expect a board to back whoever they have as their manager. Souness was awful for us and was deservedly booted out. I wouldn't have given him a penny to spend, but as Shepherds man he should've been supplied with the bucks to improve the squad. That's on a simplistic level, obviously. adios 717
can't believe people turning their noses up at the europa league, though I can see the logic. it's important to the players, keeping good ones, signing better ones. it's important to progress. having said that, I would say there's a very slim chance of qualifying. thought we were safely mid table this season under hughton, was genuinely concerned when he was sacked, but with the pleasant surprise of 6 points from the last 2, I'd say we're safe at least. Park Life 71
Pardew said this last night: "Like all strikers and players from the Championship there’s sometimes a snobbish opinion that they’re not going to be good enough and as Charlie Adams proved at Blackpool and Leon has tonight that there are players in that division who can play at this level if they have the belief." That to me says we're going to continue signing championship players. Obviously got our eyes set on the dizzy heights of the europa league. Better let Tiote and Bafra know that they are playing way above their class.

Gemmill 44881
God it's so tempting to get dragged back into walking through the massive gaps in his logic and waving "Cooee!" to him from the other side but I just know he'll wave back, laughing and thinking he's won. Phil 6
It's too early to say where we'll finish, injuries and the transfers will have a large impact. We have Ben Arfa to come back, which will give us a massive boost. If we can add Bentley then I'm very confident we'll finish 7-10. We came 7th with Rodent on the back of a strong finish, so there's no reason we can't again.
