I seem to remember that Battys first touch used to always be sideways or backwards where as Tiote quite often is attack minded.

So Tiote for me.

Eh, Tiotes first touch is always the Scott Parker pirouette do you watch Newcastle?

Not sure if mentioned elsewehere :

The Sun awarded him only 6 out of 10 and the baffling comment, "never got going."

Discussed that today at work. Clearly didnt watch the match and just picked a number out of a bucket.

As for Batty, right player in right team. Used to get stick at the time for passing backwards a lot but we were kinda spoiled with every other ball going forward. Now it would be seen as keeping the ball. For us now, Tiote came in and the jump in quality and effectiveness over Butt/Smith in that role was huge. Most effective player in that role since Batty. Laws of the game have clamped down now as well so Tiote would likely get away with more in Batty's side.

Batty needed players alongside him so I'd rather have Tiote in this team.

If we use that logic then Tiote is better than Xavi and officially the best midfielder in the world !

Well I don't agree with your assertion re: Xavi anyway so we're applying different logic. ;)

Batty was very much win the ball and give it to others who can play though and was at his most effective doing this. I think you could argue the same about Tiote but I think Tiote has more of an impact on the game and can boss it, like he did against Wigan, in a way Batty wasn't capable of. I mainly put this down to his being able to get about the pitch more (although Batty had a decent engine, don't get me wrong) and being bigger physically, which is even more important than it was in CM in Batty's day. I think Tiote is a better passer too. I really liked Batty btw.

I've seen precious little of Tiote, but reading the stuff on him I wonder if he's in the Davey Mac mould?? Anyone confirm or deny this comparison??

He's a bit bigger and stronger like ;)

He's like Davey Mac but even better, younger, faster, better on the ball and with hair. I love him, hes me favourite player of the last 5 years easily. He is TEN TIMES better than another overrated cunt, Scott Parker.

Never saw Batty use his strength to go past 3 players with ease resorting the opposition to taking him out like that ginger twat did to Tiote on Sunday.

Tiote does it 2 or 3 times a game.....leaving me with a spunky pocket.

Thought you had me on ignore ;)

The pirouette is guarding the ball which is fine by me, but he's always looking to move forward. Did you not see him against Wigan when he collected the ball and ploughed forward through everyone, including Barton , til he was brought down.

Aye, he looks for a pass normally and then protects the ball (extremely well) if it's not on. Parker used to get the ball and, even with space / options in front of him, do the 'pirouette' as a matter of course. He's only getting plaudits because he's a battler in a shite West Ham side, a bit like when he first arrived here tbh.

Tiote doesn't bottle 50/50s, swear at his own fans or cry like a girl when a member of the opposition gets crocked either unlike that puff Parker ;)

Spot on. Tiote releases the ball quickly when there are options available and has a decent range of passing. Parker appeals to english fans because he makes last-ditch tackles and goes to ground a lot, whereas because Tiote's positional play is better he doesn't have to do that, instead he snuffs out the danger before it gets to that point. He has got a bit of a dirty side though and picks up too many bookings. I think with good coaching he could develop into a top-top-notch player or whatever you want to call it.

That puff Parker did continue playing after getting a tooth knocked out in a match (against Arsenal I believe) tbf...
