3 of the 7 tectonic plates meet here so its a fair point really Fish

Death toll in the hundreds already but thus far it seems its not as bad as the one ten years back which was the initial fear. Some scary images though:

Hate to pile it on, but doesn't the death toll peak after the quake? Lack of clean water as landslides knacker pipes and prevent clean water, fresh food and medical supplies getting to those who need it?

Yup. That and the extreme cold did for a lot of the deaths in 2005. Most of the affected areas in the mountainous regions are hard enough to reach in normal times. Remember from last time around how trucks upon trucks of supplies were waiting to leave from the cities but with nowhere to go with roads blocked. Then we had weeks of aftershocks causing further landslides etc. A lot of the supplies ended up in places where they werent needed with other places left waiting desperately. It was a logistical nightmare. There's only so many people you can reach by helicopters.

Whats clear now is that its thankfully its not at that scale though there's still a lot of work to be done. Add to that there was a freak snowstorm in those areas yesterday, most of them are under deep snow. Anyway, we're hoping some lessons were learnt from 2005. Communications that initially went down came back up quickly and the army has a better presence up there now which should help the supply routes.
