Sunderland were shite that day. The team, the fans, the manager.

It was an easy, stress free derby.

The first goal a fine illustration of the on pitch sync Geremi and Owen seemed to have too.

Used to go to them at Roker Park (once with a newcastle top sticking out of a tracksuit top in the Fulwell end aged about 10, but thats a different story).

Obviously a lot more argie bargy in those days and quite often you would get trapped in the narrow streets of cottages. There would be mackems at both ends of the street and us stuck in the midlle with the usual charge / retreats at each end.

Problem was there was simply nowhere to go and bottle used to come raining in.

Bastards.

I knar it's nowt to do with the OP but as is the way with youtube you go from one clip to another and the first youtube clip led me to this one within a couple clicks.

This is the 80's all over for me, football wise. Dunno what Jim Rosenthal is banging on about a 'boot' coming in, but it's good to see him praising the support right from the start. Fans of other clubs take note the pundits were saying this even back then when our support was s'posed to have been 'shit'. ;)

Anyway speaking of what is actually shit-utterly shit facilities, porta kabin studios, awful production values but an absolutely cracking pre-match atmosphere. Watching it I can't wait for the match to start (even though I'm pretty sure we went on to lose?).
