Guest alex
Loan move would be a decent option. We'd still need a striker though.
tinofbeans 91
Barton would go in the middle with tiote, bentley wide right. Ben arfa or Jonas wide left. Ben arfa or Nolan or new striker up top alongside Carroll. Cant see how he wouldn't be a better option out there than our other right wingers on the books. Barton has done a job there but his best position is centre mid. agreed. routledge is fast but a poor mans neil lennon. bentley has a far better delivery, but is prone to beleiving that he's the best thing since sliced bread. which of course he's not. Guest You FCB Get Out Of Our Club
I know he's a cocky mug, but he was brought up in a yid area and his family are from North Lancashire so he was always going to be. However, he's a player I've admired since he was at Norwich, I mind that game when Given let a howler in and he was on loan there, he totally ran the show at SJP, and before that he showed glimpses of true class at Arsenal. Last time I went to Blackburn we lost 3-1, and he scored two, he looked England class. He's still young and there's absolutely no reason why he can't rediscover that form. If we can get him for 5s I think it would be a brilliant deal for the toon, his delivery in to the box is top drawer when he's on song. Life, youth, beautiful, I'm all for it. Ketsbaia 0
Very good player when his head is in the right place. One of Hughes' greatest achievements at Blackburn was to get Bentley and Bellamy playing at the top of their games.

Wavey Davey 0
Wolud like him but this could be another Damien Duff: Brilliant at blackburn, went somewhere else, turned shit, signed for NUFC.
Guest alex
I would say a difference is that Duff lost a yard of pace and his game was all about pace whereas that's never been the case with Bentley.

Aye that's who sprang to mind for me too when I was thinking how he could turn out. Another thing that worries me about him is that he's clearly a bit of a bellend. Picture a glass of water, still, and pure. A pipette is held above it, and drops one single drop of red substance into it, and instantly the whole glass turns red. That's me using imagery to make a point. Pretty poetic stuff.

Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
Picture a turd flying solemnly through the sky until it smashes into a delicate flower and renders it smelly. That's what happened when we signed Alan Smith.
Guest
No thanks. Why? He was one of the best players in the country at Blackburn. Because he's a wanker, he thinks he's made it, he's rich and probably thinks he has nothing to prove, because of how much of a wanker he is. Wouldn't mind a loan move as it might give him the impetus to prove he can still cut it but I wouldn't go for a permanent deal Edited January 2, 2011 by alex

If being a wanker stopped players from playing, the Premiership would be a 5 a side league though.
Guest
If we had a good enough manager then signing wankers wouldn't be so bad, I don't have any faith in Pardew whatsoever, my hopes for the season are stemming from the character that the team is showing. Adding Bentley to that could prove counter productive imo
Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
Pardew seems like a wanker as well, would probably get on very well with Bentley. Can't see the downside of this one, would you prefer Routledge and Gutierrez?

We could do without going down that road again.

1977 0
Bentley is a good shout but it's definitely a see it before I believe it signing. His wages wouldn't be that bad, as I'd say Tottenham signed his before their wage ceiling was obliterated. Plus we can't be held captive to wage limitations forever because of Smith and the likes. Certainly our wages are substantially lower than when we went down in 2008. 40k Why hasn't he played at all for Spurs though? Played the entire second half of last season due to Lennon injury, Tottenham wouldn't have captured 4th without him. Could be said that he's the best player Newcastle could possibly sign to get the most out of Carroll. Santa Cruz had it easy at Blackburn with Bentley providing the crosses. 26 assists in Bentley's two last seasons there. Routledge have very little impact on the game, if Bentley is an option he'd definitely strenghten the side.
