Howmanheyman 33940
Its a concern that he's gone to London with medical staff for further investigation. You would have thought there was enough resources in the North East for scans etc It's either a long term injury or he's signing for another club. Happy new year! acrossthepond 878
Given was "injured" just before he was sold as well. As Heyman says, either way it's bad news. Call me crazy, though, but I think we should have enough in the tank even without Carroll to beat Wigan and a truly dire West Ham.

Gemmill 46159
Christmas Tree with the Odie act again in this thread. I genuinely don't think hes a wum, he's just dim and can't see that he's strayed over the fine line between optimism and stupidity. And that that's where he now lives. Gemmill 46159
I think its a bit daft to assume that he is on his way in the window (particularly taking the fact that he is injured as some sort of sign that it will happen), but its way stupider to think that he wont be going anywhere because the player and the manager said they would prefer that. peasepud 59
I think its a bit daft to assume that he is on his way in the window (particularly taking the fact that he is injured as some sort of sign that it will happen), but its way stupider to think that he wont be going anywhere because the player and the manager said they would prefer that. Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear insists goalkeeper Shay Given will not be leaving St James' Park in January. In recent weeks, Arsenal and Tottenham have both been linked with a transfer window move for the 32-year-old. But Kinnear told The Journal: "He won't be leaving - he has no interest in that whatsoever. He loves the football club. "He's part of the city and that suits us because he's a world-class goalkeeper. He's very happy here, he's very comfortable at Newcastle United." Speculation surrounding Given's future increased after he produced a series of magnificent saves during the Magpies' 5-1 defeat by Liverpool on Sunday. That performance led Kinnear to hail the Republic of Ireland international as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League. "Shay's performance against Liverpool was brilliant and that got picked up on," added Kinnear. "But ask the Geordie fans and I think they already knew how good he is. They know their football, so to be one of their favourites says it all about how good he is. "He's the best goalkeeper in the Premier League by a mile." Newcastle have some strength in the goalkeeping position, with Given's long-term deputy Steve Harper currently in discussions over a new contract. However, Kinnear is determined to hold on to his best players, including England striker Michael Owen whose contract expires in the summer, as he attempts to steer the club away from the bottom half of the table

Pardew's assurances aren't worth bugger all as we all well know, and why anyone debates the opposite is beyond me. Exactly. As a group of fans we can't believe anything that comes from thje board or manager in terms of our transfer policy. That policy being, if the moneys right they'll go, and if the fee is cheap/right for the club they may come. We can't say for certain that he's staying just because Pardew was told by Derek that he's gan neewhere. Personally, I hope he'll be here come February 1st but not so sure about next season. What the fuck did we do to deserve this, having to second guess the owners? It's not that Ashley want's us to do badly, it's just he want's us to scrape through everything on the lowest budget with the shittest products. You only have to look at Sports Direct. High turnover of absolute shite. Leon Best and James Perch are the Lonsdale and Donnay of this world.
Monroe Transfer 0
Excuse the source. The Fail reckon he'll be out for up to a month. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...dy-Carroll.html Newcastle will face their biggest test of the season so far with the news that Andy Carroll could be out for up to a month with a thigh injury. The England striker has travelled to London for scans and tests after aggravating the injury this week. He will miss today’s trip to Wigan, the midweek home clash with West Ham and is doubtful for the Wear-Tyne derby at Sunderland a fortnight tomorrow. Manager Alan Pardew, whose side sit three points above the relegation zone after defeats to Manchester City and Tottenham, is so concerned about the injury, which has been niggling Carroll for weeks, that he sent him to the Lister Hospital in Chelsea. The unit specialises in MRI scans and the level of treatment available to Carroll, who was accompanied by his agent Mark Curtis, suggests Newcastle are extremely worried about the injury. But Pardew is confident his side can score goals without his star striker. ‘Can Newcastle score without Andy Carroll? Yes, I think so,’ said Pardew. ‘We have enough in the group to suggest we can. ‘But you can’t dress it up. You are talking about one of the best young players in the country, who has had a fantastic first half of the season. We don’t want him to be missing for too long, that’s for sure. It’s about the rest of us pulling our socks up and putting together an excellent performance to make up for the loss.’ Pardew has limited options available without his top scorer, who has notched six of his 11 Barclays Premier League goals in the last nine matches. Shola Ameobi has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury and will be favourite to start in the lone striker role, with captain Kevin Nolan returning from a ban to support him. That will mean Nile Ranger, 19, yet to start or score in a Premier League game, will be on the bench with Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best. Carroll’s injury will also force Newcastle to recruit this month and Pardew is interested in Tottenham striker Robbie Keane. He said: ‘If any player of that sort of quality becomes available, we will be interested in them. If it’s possible to bring them to the club, we will definitely be having a look.’ Dan Gosling, 20, is included in the squad for the first time. Guest alex
Only remotely good thing about this is the timing, i.e. at least there's the potential to try and get someone in during the transfer window.
Guest alex
Tbh Ant, that has to be bollocks, as it suggests the current and previous manager has / had any say in who stays and goes.
Guest alex
Indeed i don't think the transfer bit has any validity , but you still don't want to read it while eating. But sticking smith up front seems like the idiotic thing Pardew would do. "look at my master stroke!" Following CT's advice on here no doubt. Guest You FCB Get Out Of Our Club
Caulkin seems sure Smith is starting up front. The only tiny positives are, he played his best game by a mile for the toon up front (at home to Arsenal when Taylor scored), and it's impossible to be any worse than he is in midfield. He's 25/1 for first goal, anyone brave enough?

Ketsbaia 0
I'm not as concerned by Smith starting up front than I thought I would be, although it does beg the question what does Ranger have to do to get a start if Smudger is preferred to him. He's 25/1 for first goal, anyone brave enough? This is it for me, he is not just shit in midfield he will cost us points by being so slow, imobile and letting teams break, whilst risking pens and dangerous freekicks with his late tackles. Obviously he won't offer us any movement up front either which if he's paired with Nolan would be frightening and i'd have Ranger ahead of him by a country mile, but if Pardew is goign to play him, then up front probably isnt the worst option. Kevin S. Assilleekunt 1
I hope we don't inject Carroll with some painkillers and force him to play through injury; Sneijder collapsed last year and was anemic as a result of having played too much.
