Christmas Tree 4834
Nearly shot my load when he came on Tough game to introduce him when the team was so lack lustre. A couple of glimses of whats to come when he went past 3 before being brought down. Looks like one the mascots Find it odd that you big him up to such an extent when he looks decidedley inexperienced and unsure a lot of the time....wheras you slate Ranger at every opportunirty as not ready to move up into the first team when it's exactly the opposite way round. Taxi drivers dilemma I suppose. Simply comes from the fact of his potential / ability and my unhappiness with a certain Argentinian. Ranger has had quite a few runs out as a sub, Ferguson hasnt. Therefore where I am still excited about seeing Ferguson get a few runs in the team, that same excitement isnt there for Ranger.
Dr Gloom 22159
you put him in your team as first choice left winger though CT. not sure what you're basing that on. i hope he turns out to be a good young player like but he's miles away from a first choice spot at the moment. acrossthepond 878
Not to mention that everyone who's talking about him is talking about him as a left-back, not a winger, and it was at left-back where he put in a good performance against Chelsea. Christmas Tree 4834
I've noticed some people (and CT is by no means the only one to do this) seem to think that if they say a player is class when they first get a glimpse of them it shows them to be some sort of talent-spotting genius in the event that it comes true. Steven Taylor - future England captain, for example Utter bollocks Are you suggesting a player blackout discussion until they have completed a set number of games? It is only normal if a player sparks some excitement in you to talk about it. Obviously my dislike of you know who and the fact Fergie played a couple of times in his position, naturally makes it more exciting from my perspective. Bit unfair to say that until he's had the chance to prove it one way or the other. Age shouldnt be a concern and judging by the fact he's in the first team squad, it isnt. Btw, I'm not saying that he is definitely ready, but I'd love to see him given a go. (More so covering for Jonas, although it looks as though they think he'll end up at left back). He did quite well but it was a good situation to come into a game. Nothing actually came of anything he did. That's not to say I don't think he looks promising but that's about all you can say about him at the moment. If we're doing predictions like I don't think he'll make it because you need to be a bit special (not like Paul) to make it with a build like his. You did say he should be starting at left wing in your first choice 11 in another thread though. I agree he looks a prospect and should be given a chance but I'd restrict that to cameos off the bench for now unless we're really stretched. He looks a bit light weight at the moment. He should get on the weights and protein shakes

I know he doesnt like it but I would have stuck Jonas at right wing, fergie at left wing and left the back four unchanged.

TBH I think the formation was a dog's dinner and there were at least a couple of other options better than he went with and that would've kept the usual back four. Lovenkrands could've played on the right, as could Guthrie. Neither are ideal but would've given us a better shape. I'm slightly loath to criticise a manager with such pitiful options though. Gutierrez was our best player against Everton I was trying to avoid the leazes mag style old argument about Jonas. I actually gave him credit in the match thread for effort but as usual the overall end result is usually the same. We need a winger who can whip crosses into the right positions numerous times throughout the game. He doesnt. It also effects forwards because they are less likely to get in the right positions if they consider that 9 times out of 10, the cross aint going to come. Its pointless really having this debate with me because my mind is already made up on Jonas. The proof of the pudding will be how notable the difference is when another winger gets a go. Dr Gloom 22159
I think that's when we'll realise he's a decent player CT. When he's replaced by some player that cost a pittance.

Only the genuinely thick would still claim that he is anything other than a good player. If he could cross more effectively (with his weaker foot) and score the odd goal, like CT seems to think he should be doing, he would be a great player and probably not playing for us. "If he cross effectively and score the odd goal", he would be a good player you clown. thing is CT, he's still the best bet at LW we've got on the books right now, other than ben arfa who by the looks of it will play up front or just off the front man. if he's got rid of, who do you play in his place? not ferguson yet, obviously. i agree he's a frustrating player but he's not the worst winger ever to play for us by a long shot. his final ball is hit or miss but he's one of the few players we've got that can beat men for pace and skill. he's an exciting player to watch at times, he can take pressure off the back four by going on a mazy run (usually resulting in winning a throw in or free kick), he's not afraid to track back and defend plus he's got a good understand going with enrique - we've been pretty solid down the left side for a while now. he's nowhere near as bad as you're making out.
