"Jeezaz giz ya autihgraff!!" He used to hate being called Jesus like, but he did look like him.

Absolutely cracking player who's family was originally from South Shields. He spent a lot of time at Shields as a kid with all the family there so that's why he felt an affinity with the club straight away. My favourite memory of him was patting my on the head after his hattrick against Oxford, a dramatic 4-3 win, I was ball boy that day. He was very technically gifted in a toon side full of absolute shite. Can't remember if Ossie or Jim Smith signed him, but it was inspired, could've done a job for us in the Prem too, but I'm sure the reason he went home to London was to do with his daughter being born with an arm missing or something. I mind that season for Chelsea when he left he got the winner against Man Utd in two different games, really good player. So was David Kelly mind.

Best bearded toon player of the 90's.

Well it was either him Dave Mitchell, or Franck Dumas. I can't remember too many more with beards.

Definitely Peacock like. Had the Peter Sutcliffe look absolutely nailed when he went all born again.

Ah aye no doubt about it I was just listing people with beards. He didn't sport one till his last season iirc.

Nah pretty sure his beard was pre-Keegan like Stevie. Unless my memory's not what it was??

Well he didn't have one against Oxford am pretty sure. Am certain when he first came he didn't have one. Memory a bit shite these days though. This was at that Derby game that we go on about (my fav toon away game), he definitely had one then and that was April/May 92.

That's right. Him and his wife had a disabled baby and she wanted to go back south so her parents could help them look after her. We let him go to Chelsea on the cheap for compassionate reasons. I guess that's one of the reasons why he views us fondly.

You're right like he didnt have it when he first signed but I always seem to remember him giving it a debut during Ossie's time - but I could very well be wrong.

Just had a squizz on wiki (not re: his beard ) and apparently he's in Canada these days training as a Christian minister.

Gavin Peacock...............wasn't he a God botherer? I remember a call to 606 when Danny Baker hosted it years ago that said he was so offended by the rest of the team watching some bad porno film on the bus that he travelled in with the bags below decks.

I think Ossie or Jim Smith bought Peacock from Bournemouth for about £100K and sent Wayne Fereday the other way as part of the deal, I think Redknapp might have been their manager at the time, if so it wasn't the best bit of wheeling and dealing T'riffic 'Arry ever did!
