i'm so fucked off. i was genuinely optimistic with hughton in charge. i was beginning to believe again and looking forward to games for the first time in ages. even if we lost, and there were always going to be rough periods in this season, the lads always looked like they were playing for each other. It was the best team spirit we've had since sir bobby was manager. the players looked like they actually gave a fuck and they wanted to play for the guy in charge, who himself won us all over despite a few initial doubts over whether we was a big enough personality, with his honesty, good nature, professionalism - and above all results.

 

to replace hughton with a loser like pardew and risk destroying the unity he has managed to put in place is the worst move by any football club since ashley thought it wise to appoint wise, sack keegan and replace him with kinnear.

Totally. I've enjoyed going to the match this season, apart from Blackburn and Fulham, and I thought aye we could just be heading in the right direction. Hughton did more for NUFC in his 16 month in charge than Ferguson did for Man Utd in his thats how I look at it.

Yes I was right this does feel worse than Souness. We all thought Souness was a bad appointment but he actually had a far better track record than Pardew and, more importantly, he had a chairman at the time who we knew would back him with money to make signings. Pardew is being appointed because he's their mate, he's cheap and he'll be happy to have no money to spend.

With Souness you could see logical (if misguided) reasons for his appointment to try and move the club forward. The only reasons here are to Ashley and Labias benefit.

This is fucking scandalous. I've always said in past said that every new manager deserves our support while he tries to move the team on but not in this case. Pardew is a fucking lacky of the FCB and nothing more and deserves fuck all from us and will get nothing from me!

This. At the time of Robsons sacking people like Dyer, Jenas etc were being fuckheads and the idea was bringing in Souness would get them in line it was a stupid appointment everyone knew it at the time I was gutted but this makes no sense whatsoever there's not one reason (apart from employing his loser mates) to this. The bit where you mention how he's been appointed because he's cheap and happy with no money is the most worrying thing, he has no career let's be honest he knows this full well Hughton was going places and had a building reputation, Pardew never has and never will have a reputation so he ticks their boxes happy to just sit, take a wage and not give a fuck extremely worrying for us.

I don't even know what to say. I think I'd got my hopes up that Fat Mike was actually trying to get someone he saw as "better" than Hughton in, so that even though sacking Hughton was a classless, unnecessary and truly cock-eyed decision, he was at least trying to improve the club.

 

Pardew is a downgrade on Hughton as I think anyone would agree. Hughton took us back up after relegation - Pardew left Charlton in 11th his first season down and on course for relegation in his second before getting sacked and ending up getting sacked AGAIN in League 1. It's just another cheap, "jobs for the boys" situation almost PRECISELY like JFK. What was the name of that play? "You couldn't make it up?"

 

I feel a modicum of pity for Pardew. I wonder how it's going to feel, walking out onto the pitch at SJP on Saturday to witness the fury of fans who simply do not want you.
