Best albums of 2010

The Kanye album is ridiculously great. It's got more ideas in some songs that most artists have over entire albums. If we're talking hip-hop, these are worth listening to IMO:

Kno - Death is Silent

Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty

Nas and Damien Marley - Distant Relatives (Could be more reggae than rap though)

Currensy - Pilot Talk 1+2

Janelle Monae - The Archandroid (More RnB than rap again but the range it covers is immense)

The Roots -How I Got Over

Those more into the hip-hop scene can probably recommened better than I could.

Innerspeaker by Tame Impala and Swim by Caribou are both excellent as well. I Learned The Hard Way by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings is a great soul album with a fantastic singer.

HappyFace, why do you feel the need to put music into lists, or at least to 'trawl the internet for hours' looking at these lists? WHHYYYYY??

So I know what well received stuff I haven't heard yet and need to have a listen to.

Were you a fan of Pete Doherty before he became fat? Best musical genius type of the last millenium according to the rock-press, ignoring the fact that he was a drug-addled mess who would struggle to tie his shoelaces, let alone play an instrument.

Always thought he was largely shite.

Did like the line "there is no sight more pathetic than that, of an Englishman in a baseball hat" or something like that.

Don't think he's received a particularly great deal of praise outside of NME though really.

I can't imagine I can recommend much you haven't heard....I must be getting old because I've not listened to half the new music I have in years gone by, it's all radio 4 podcasts nowadays.

That said, heard a lush track by Tobacco called Stretch Your Face last week on the all songs considered. Not listened to the whole album (Maniac Meat) yet. But that track was right up my pop alley.

Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History

Really like that.

Aye thought that was canny.

Chez, The New Pornographers new one is another canny effort from them if you haven't heard it. And I've not heard it all yet but I'm enjoying the new Aloha one so far and the Clientele are as reliable as ever. Sun Bronzed Greek Gods is a nice sunny pop EP from Dom too.

  • 2 weeks later...

I think my 11 faves are.....

The Black Keys - Brothers

Broken Bells - Broken Bells

Hanz Zimmer - Inception

Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

Mumford - Sigh No More

The Roots - How I got over/Wake Up

Sleigh Bells - Treats

Spoon - Transference

Titus Andronicus - The Monitor

Yeasayer - Odd Blood

Hardly got into anything new this year  it's 80% good albums from acts I already loved rather than excellent albums that will be all time favourites, or particularly exciting new stuff.

EDIT: I must be getting old. It'll be a Bob Dylan compilation and re-mastered Pink Floyd at christmas next year.
