Not sure you could argue he's a footballer tbh.

I didn't say he was any good

He wasn't a striker when we signed him anyway. Allardyce didn't play him there and he hadn't regularly played as one for years. He was signed as a midfielder.

It's basically a sly and disrespectful way of saying that NUFC should know it's place

I caught a bit of that last word thing where Andy Gray was saying that Chelsea should have expected to beat teams like us. I know its probably true (which hurts) but the way he said it smacked massively of "Geordies - know your place".

The fact they chose Souness as the "Newcastle" pundit says it all about what light Sky want to shine on us.

I assumed that it was because of the following match, with him having both Newcastle and Liverpool connections and Poyet having Chelsea and Spurs connections.

Ah right, I didn't know that was the case. I thought Spurs/Liverpool was on ESPN. Has there been anything made about Ashley Cole kicking Shola in the arse? It seemed that way from where I was sitting.

Fuckin' Poyet.

Quality player. Did you see his goals record under his name on sky? Better than 1 in 3 from midfield.

taylor and campbell both looked solid. we're probably better off for central defenders than we have been in years. you could make the case for any of them being in the starting eleven. taylor and sol aren't a bad backup pairing.

we're not looking as blessed up front mind. shola annoyingly reverted to type ysterday after some decent performances this season. ranger coming off the bench is still raw. agree that we're crying out for someone with pace to get on to the end of carroll's flick ons. he won everything in the air yesterday but shola was always the wrong side of his marker to get on the end of anything.

so annoying that we didn't bust a gut to get bellamy. with him and carroll up front this season i reckon we'd be challenging for top 6.

I think it's probably quite symptomatic of the way we've changed focus over the last couple years. Newly promoted, looking to stabilise first, on limited funds and with a manager who was a defender as a player I think the defence overall and the addition of Tiote to protect it has been a bit of a success story.

You're right about the other end of the pitch though and it's absolutely crying out for attention now. The club needs to be clear that Carroll making the impact he's had has been completely unexpected. If he'd just been an average Prem striker in the first half of the season (and that in itself would have meant exceeding most people's expectations including my own), we'd probably be 4 points worse off now (looking at the Arsenal and Wolves games specifically amongst his goals as I think we just wouldn't have scored those on another day with a different striker playing). I know he hit three against Villa and the West Ham winner too but I think we would have beat West Ham come what may as the game went on. Arsenal and Wolves are games where we'd have got nowt in previous seasons though.

I almost feel sorry for Carroll up there on his own, winning his own flick-ons, tracking back, the team refusing to attack because he was back defending a corner etc.

Barfa would have had a field day off him.

Drogba tips Tiote to become Magpies legend

Nov 29 2010 by Lee Ryder, Evening Chronicle

CHELSEA star Didier Drogba today told the Toon Army: “You have one hell of a player on your hands in Cheik Tiote.”

And in an exclusive interview with the Chronicle, Drogba has tipped Newcastle United’s midfield dynamo to go on and be a Premier League legend.

The words of the Ivory Coast World Cup ace – who drew a blank in the 1-1 draw at Gallowgate – are praise indeed for the 24-year-old, with the usually evasive Drogba not someone who would normally bask in the media limelight.

But Drogba made his feelings clear before leaving Tyneside and said: “Cheik is a very good player, he played very well against us at St James’ Park and did well for his team.

“For the Ivory Coast he is a very important player for us as people saw in the World Cup for our national team.

“I think Newcastle United supporters have only seen half of his potential so far.

“You have only seen half the player.

“I say that because the more he plays in the Premier League at first-team level the better he will become.”

Tiote was desperate to face his idol Michael Essien yesterday, but the Stamford Bridge man was suspended.

The ex-FC Twente player picked up man of the match honours again on his own return from the sin bin.

Now Drogba, who has won 10 medals since arriving on the Premier League scene six years ago, thinks there were will be much more to come.

He said: “I think he is going to go on and be one of the strongest players in this league.

“I have to say that physically he is a bit stronger than me.

“And that means he will a lot better for it.

“Newcastle well and truly have a star player on their hands and the fans should be pleased.”

Drogba was satisfied with a point for the champions at St James’, but Newcastle fans were sweating when he rattled the ball past Tim Krul late on.

Drogba explained why it had not stood, he said: “The goal was a handball.

“I wasn’t fouled but the reason I was disappointed was because two minutes before there was an action when I tried to cross and the defender touched it with his hand.

“But he didn’t give it, so that’s why I disappointed.

“We created a lot of chances.

“The problem was Newcastle scored so early in the game.

“Then we had to chase and it means you leave more space and you create more fatigue.

“That then makes it difficult to create the opportunities you do get.”

Going into the game I would have taken a draw, after the game, I thought if we had hit Alex more and got a decent final ball we could have beat Chelsea. At times our crossing was shocking and the positioning of Shola was shocking.

He is a frustrating fucker Strola. One minute he is great, but mostly he is shite, lazy and just a fucking pain to watch.

thats our one glaring problem. lack of speed at centre back. i concur that in terms of ability we have 4 very competent centre backs.

Tiote has been great as has barton , carrolls exceeded my expectations, nolans done well interms of goals scored..... we just need to string together a few more wins and keep safe then build on a highly promising start (considering)!.
