You could also say Newcastle United have sold 8 of theirs ie Given, Bassong, Milner, Owen, Beye, Martins, Duff, N'Zogbia which of course resulted in relegation. maybe, this sort of thing isn't easy to judge. I think that when a player loses his way, or whatever, there is usually a reason for it ie playing for a team heading downwards, subconsciously not playing to the best of his ability as a result, poor managers, not the best partner in the team, general disillusion, feeling like the club is going nowhere, a team playing in a way that doesn't help him perform to his best, a multitude of things can affect performance. You need to take a look at the player and try to find out his mental approach and attitude to the game in these cases.

 

It may be that he was a flash in the pan for a while and he doesn't have the desire for success that you are looking for, but maybe not.
